Anyone else use one? I loved using this. It was so much fun and I think really helped Lottie and improved my seat, body positioning and aids.

Benefits according to a lesson I had this weekend are;

1) Helps with posture as makes her more upright through the shoulder as she is naturally looking at it and stepping away from it.
2) A test of training as circles have to be completely round to use it properly
3) Makes me ride better as I only have 1 hand. So need to adjust my shoulders, hips and legs to steer and bend.
4) Immediately highlights problems in rider or horse - offering instant feedback
5) Allows you to train harder movements more easily. A horse can canter a 5m circle (and eventually a 1m circle) round one of these much more easily then in an open arena
6) motivates the horse as they perceive the movements you want to have a purpose.

Yes had fun with these on Daisy. They were hard to find at the time, so the other lady on my hard got one of the round stair handrails from B&Q, and it worked quite well.

Several on our yard practise with the garrocha or a vara. Our trainer also teaches that work, not just the working equitation side of it. It’s really good fun but your horse needs to be on your aids.

I watched a working equitation demo last week where they were using a garrocha and I definitely think you would enjoy it in a break from eventing. While there is obstacles, it's more about the style and training than doing them fast with a lot in common with the movements we do at liberty eg turn on forehand, rein back, turn on haunches

Does anyone know if there's someone or somewhere in the west of England, preferably somerset area, that would help train with a garrocha? My PRE is always keen to learn new things, I honestly wouldn't have a clue how to begin this on my own...:)

Little Shetland not with the garrocha but there is a lady sally bell in Somerset who does working equitation which is great fun and a bit different. All the tasks you do help improve flexibility ect . I did my first clinic with her on Friday and it was fun . I hope she comes back to Dorset soon.
The girl that did best with the vara was on a Spanish horse!

Every day is a school day..knew nothing about this as a training aid. I’m very impressed but not sure I’m dexterous or strong enough these days lol. I’m guessing a garden canE won’t cut the mustard??

Joe Midgley in the East teaches garrocha. Maybe he could point you in the direction of someone closer to you?
