Has she been coloured tested as silver? Because she really doesnt look it. She does look black sabino, you cant visually tell smokey black from black. Thats also not a bloody shoulder marking. Its just an area where the roaning from the sabino hasnt kicked in, it just happens to be on her shoulder :) Shes pretty cool looking though

And surely its pearl for her name? Its a pretty name I think it suit her

Not sure, it’s in her passport so probably been tested? Who knows haha! It doesn’t bother me too much, I won’t be breeding from her anyway. It’s just cool sounding.

I quite like dolly for a name, little dolly cob. Pearl reminds me of the titanic and I do not need to board another sinking ship ?

Omg I thought it was just MC saying “urgh look at that bloody marking” I didn’t realise it was a technical term ??‍♀️
 
Congrats on your new horse and her mane and feathers look in good shape are you going to plait mane or I can’t bring my self to say the word ??

That’s just like my Betty Cob with my 3 year old. Not a day goes by when I don’t think she is worth her weight in gold. I hope it’s just the same for you and the totally beautiful Dolly (love that name).

It's associated with grey. For some reason an area (which doesn't have to be on the shoulder) will not grey out and remains the base colour.

Has she been colour tested? Sometimes the phenotype (how the horse looks) isn't quite what you expect from the genetics, or the other way round. There could be quite a few different colour genes at play. She's fantastic though whatever is causing her colour. :)

It’s quite possible she has been tested at the stud but I’m not sure. I imagine they would have had her tested as a foal in case they kept her to breed from

Just waiting for the practise to open so I can book it in. Anyone shed any light as to how much they cost these days? Only looking for a basic vetting, I don’t feel the need for a 5*
 
Around £350 for a 5 stage, so maybe £200/£250 for 2 stage?
I only get 2 stage on 3/4 yr olds. And I have been known to buy from Ireland without a vetting at all!
But sensible to get one. Sure it will all be fine.
She is really beautiful and here’s to many happy years.
Very sensible of you to get something kids friendly also, a real family pony you can all enjoy.
Dolly is adorable.

I’ve never had anything I’ve bought vetted BUT I usually buy from the stud, or it’s a cheap bargain thats pointless having a vetting. (As in a a couple of hundred £££)

I’m sure it will too as seller got her directly from the stud but due to her bad health and grandchildren losing interest she’s had to sell, I think you’re right. My main thing was my children’s safety around the horse. I know they’re unpredictable and never 100% safe but the temperament needed to be there. My fell was amazing but the kids were too much for her, as brave and bold as she is I think the small humans worried her - they worry me!

But it will be nice to have something we can all be around and ride

Quite the opposite. :D I save photos with cool markings that I like, so gulastra plume, badger faced horses etc...

I've always found blood marks interesting. IIRC it is a somatic mutation (so not inherited) that is linked to grey horses having areas that don't grey out. I'm sure there's lots of info out there that is more up to date than what I can remember from when I looked into it a few years ago as my gelding has a grandsire with a bloody shoulder and also blood marks on his head. :)
 
Doesn’t seem like the sale is going ahead, perhaps I jinxed it. I have been waiting for seller to send me her bank details to send deposit (I know I said I’d sent it, I was literally sat waiting to!) and heard nothing. Complete radio silence ?

However I’ve seen a lovely gelding on HQ for sale, contacted them but no answer so let’s see if they get back to me.
