Wretched creatures! They really do pick their moments, don't they?
I hope that your horse becomes pain-free very soon, and that you get to see the State Funeral.

Hope horse is OK. Obviously colic is never to be messed with but my old lad can very rarely get a little uncomfortable. My go to is liquid paraffin syringed down the throat. It usually works in 15/20 mins. Of course this is just for being uncomfortable, not full blown which Obviously should always be seen by the vet.

Thanks, all. She should be ok ?.

Vet (senior partner) thought that it was an impaction, but he did a rectal and found no evidence of one. The few dropping that he cleared out were normal. She had quite a heart murmur, though, showing a pain response.

He thinks that it is just gut pain, she's been given painkillers and once she's come round from the doping she's to be turned out onto fresh grass to get things moving again. She'll be out in her own paddock so that I can monitor poo production. I poo picked the fields after the vet had gone and the dropping collection was normal in type and quantity - nothing obviously brewing. Vet asked about her management (lives out 22/7) and said that it was spot on. She came in as normal this morning just after 7am, was a little slow to eat her breakfast, nibbled at her haynet then soon became more uncomfortable.

I did say that I won't put a horse through a surgical colic, but he doesn't expect it to go surgical. I'm to call the vet out again late afternoon if she's not fully comfortable.

Playing dead when the vet arrived ?.

Now sleeping off the dope - those droppings are what the vet shifted.

I am currently monitoring her via the cctv and watching the preamble to the funeral on the tv.

ETA Early on I'd tried lunging her in trot and canter to get her gut moving but no joy, not even a fart.

I had one groaning in pain and sliding down the stable wall. A few minutes after the vet arrived, she was up on her feet, wanting to know what all the fuss was about and where was her tea.
Fingers still crossed, even though she should be ok..

Me too. Rolling on the floor, groaning in pain. Wouldn't stand up. Ran inside to call the vet, came out to find him up and eating.

I hope this is as simple TP.
