The last few days have been heaven; having my boy home! He has settled right in, every time I walk past the field gate to go to the muck heap he calls and comes trotting over. I have only ridden him twice (he came back on Wed and have ridden him Thurs and Fri) this week, but it's like learning to ride a bike again - once you remember how, you are off like the wind, lol.
I haven't pushed him too hard - I wanted to see how much he remembered. He is lacking a lot of muscle and topline, so I am keeping the sessions short - about half an hour, with ten minutes of walk work. His flying changes and collection work is a bit rusty, and when you ask for extended trot he thinks he should just fly off at ninety miles an hour, but it will all come back.
But blimey - two days of "proper" riding, and I can barely walk!! I haven't ridden like that for a couple of months, and its amazing how quick you lose the muscle!
