Took Gem out for a hack today, even though I felt like death due to this flipping cold! I felt a bit better in the afternoon, so threw some tack on my very clean ginger pony (She's been in due to mud fever for the last few days.) Anyway, happily plodding along the cindertrack, very very impressed at how amazingly behaved she was being, when we were met with a huge great tractor *gulp* Gem, was very well behaved, only spun once and even went to look at it when she had relaxed (after lots of mindless chatting from me and strokes.)
We carried on our way, up the lane and were met with a speeding chav on the wrong side of the road coming round a blind bend, good god, I thought I was going to go flying! But my super excellent amazing pony (its not often you'll hear me say that

) reversed at a high speed and stood stock still while the chavs slammed on their breaks. I was met with a load of abuse about 'stupid stuck up horse riders shouldn't be allowed on the roads etc.' *rolls eyes* I didn't think to get the lisence plate *kicks self.*
After the chavs' car (neither of which I recognised) revved passed I carried on with a lovely hack with an almost perfect pony, I was so impressed after the show she has been making of herself recently! Lots of pats when we got back to the yard!!
This is the first time I have ever encountered anyone so rude out riding! I think we are lucky to live I quite a horsey area with reasonably understandable people on the roads!

(Apologies for any spelling mistakes, the H and U aren't working very well on my keyboard! LOL)

You were lucky if this is the first time. We broke down about 2 miles from home in our lorry and had to unload the horses ,while doing it a car appeared and my daughter made a signal asking the driver to slow he din't so she insisted as the horse was on the ramp .He slowed then gave her verbal, saying she had no right to direct traffic, he picked on the wrong person she is a police officer.LOL

I think I might save that one and show you it if she acts special!

Good pony. Good you as well..you sound like you were well behaved when met with the stream of abuse.

Think you may well be lucky or surrounded by polite people! Have met quite a lot of rude drivers when out on various ones - some people are absoloutely appauling..and also horrendously stupid too a lot of the time. Being chavs doesn't surprise me

There were two chavs! Both ugly! ? Eugh, *shudders at the greasyness and ignores the fact I have gresy hair shoved under a cap atm!*

Lol of course Grace, I am sweetness and light when met with such abuse

... I was actually far too taken aback at what had just happened lol!

After reading your post, it made me think what a good bond you have with your horse. You obviously trust each other and the horse's natural instincts kicked in and saved you both. I had to mention this because so many riders, forget to trust their horses and you two have obviously got it right

Glad you are both ok...I agree with filly190's post...horse have natural instincts that kick in but it so helps if you have a good relationship with your horse too. We have a couple of completely blind bends on our local route and one day we were approaching one and my horse just stopped and would not walk on at all...for all my asking him too...a few seconds later a car came round the blind bend that I had not heard coming...but he obviously had. The car had enough time to stop so we could get past (single track), but it would have been tricky meeting it further round the bend...what a good horsey!
