OH paid for me to have a side saddle photoshoot experience for my birthday which was back in July, so off I went yesterday thinking 'what am I doing?!'
I was fairly anxious but was in good hands (hooves?) with 'Supercob' Toby who seemed a perfect match for me. There was less instruction than I thought there might be as the emphasis was really on the photoshoot experience; some pointers for position and aids before some practice in the arena and then out onto the gallop track for a walk out with plenty of pauses for photos. It was drizzly and grey but I think the pictures came out fairly well and I like the slightly moody autumnal vibe to them.
I'm so proud of myself for completing this challenge - it was a big one on the list of my 2024 riding goals to try side saddle and this did seem like going in at the deep end. Granted we were just walking out but people who have seen my posts on the weekend plans threads and when I used to do my lesson reports will know that confidence is something I have really had some difficulty with. New venue, new instructor, new horse, riding in a group; well out of my comfort zone but I overall I really did enjoy it. My right knee and hip less enjoyed it less!
First pic is before we had moved off, I like that it's relaxed and I was just so pleased to meet lovely Toby.
