My horse is in horsepital! He got kicked last weekend and all seemed fine. He had a slight swelling which went down the following day, and a nick in the skin which I kept clean. However, went in yesterday and slight nick was a cut and leg was swollen again. Poulticed it, but when I went in today, I wasn't happy so called the vet. He has taken fluid off the joint and it has been sent to the lab, and he has pumped Mac full of antibiotics, but he is saying that the joint could be injected, in which case he will have to got to Potters Bar and have it flushed. He is staying at local vets tonight for observation.
I feel so guilty that I didn't get vet sooner, but before yesterday, there really didn't seem any need.

Don't feel guilty - You did what you thought was right....You did not see any signs of infection early on, and when you did, you called the vet.
I am sure all will be fine...

No you're not - you treated the original injury and called the vet as soon as it became a problem. Can't see what else you could have done so try not to beat yourself up about it.
Hope he's ok.

Awww you are not a bad mummy. You did what all of us would have done. You dealt with the cut as soon as you saw it and when it looked worse you called the vet. Same as we all would have done so please dont beat yourself up about it.

Good luck and keep us posted.

You're not a terrible mum at all. My horse had a tiny little wound that looked so innocent I blobbed some stuff on it and forgot about it. 10 days later he had an op to remove a piece of chipped bone! How bad did I feel. I'm so paranoid these days now about wounds, the vet despairs with me!

We all do the best for horses, so don't beat yourself up about it!
