went to Stratford hills yesterday to do the prenovice class. After working nonstop on my dressage this week I was really hoping to get a decent mark... however it was not t be; i got a really sh*tty mark and rode like blindfolded chipmonk with no arms or legs...
things brightened up tho when we got a clear sj and she felt really nice and forward off my leg - she obviously was trying to make up for our pityous dressage earlier!!
onto xc, the bit we all came for!! she warmed up nicely, if a bit lazy and unimpressed by the torential rain! I could barely see when we set off the rain was so hard, but she settled into a really nice rythm and for once she was actually listening to me!!

She isnt very confident with water complexes but she worked it out really quickly and popped through like a pro.
Up the next hill and i was thinking how well it was going but knew that i still had the coffin to go.
Really steadied for the horseshoe to anvil on a related distance which was 3 long or 4 short -decided on 3 long but she disagreed and chipped in a short one, didnt get high enough, slipped over it and deposited me on the floor- ouch.

Jumped up to reassure the fence judge who in turn radioed for the paramedics. This threw my mum into complete panic who then ran up and down several hills to make sure i wasnt dead.

The parmedics and doctors were lovely- painkillers and a ride in the ambulance- then to hosp for an xray which showed that clavicle is completely broken.
So how long before i can ride again?
Supposed to be doing work experience with a show-jumper next week, also Norfolk Show and then had Calvert Cup on 19th.......
Have some of my exta strong painkillers if you got this far...
Hoping for some healing vibes...

i have no idea how long it will take to mend but just wanted to say OUCH!!!!! its probably best resting it as long as possible so that you don't get problems in future. but if it was me i'd dope myself up and ride as soon as possible- Ollie Townend went round badders with a broken collar bone last year...he did look a tad pained when he came throught the XC finish tho

Ellie is fine- she just stood there looking at me as if to say " come on mum, we're never going to make the time at this rate"!! She looked so confused as i got driven away in the ambulance poor girl!!
xx

Poor you, I know the jump you mean, must have been horrible.
R broke her CB back in February - think she was riding again within 2 weeks but you need to go and see this guy if you can find the dosh from somewhere http://www.physioclinic.net/ He made so much difference for Rosie and others on here too including Bubblegum who broke her leg very badly a while back

Ouch, poor you.

That was a tricky fence, and after a steep uphill run too, which made it harder. Hope you are not too sore.
Definitely get help, as RF suggests. That man is magic.

I dislocated my CB, which IMHO is worse, and it took me about 8 - 9mths to get back into it all properly. However, I'm a total freak of nature and have hypermobility so my ligaments didn't even attempt to pull the bone back into place [I dislocated the Sterno-Clavicular joint at the base of your throat]. I also got knocked over when watching rugby [a player misjudged a tackle and took me as well as the intended...] so it popped again. It now sits wonderfully - half in half out - and I can push it in and out xD

You might want to contact Lauren Shannon through the Kyles at QueenHolme - Lauren broke her collarbone a while back, and I seem to think had surgery to speed the recovery time? Might be worth ringing and having a chat. She's v approachable

I broke mine 2 years ago, albeit it was a "good" break in that it was straight through and the bone ends didnt move apart too much, and I didn't actually realise I'd broken it for over 3 weeks (bloody hurt though). I rode 4 days after I did it in a 2'9 ODE and took stacks of Cocodamol - was do-able but not recommended. I think it stopped hurting enough to ride properly (ie not one handed) after about 4 weeks. Hope you aren't too sore and my best advice would be to go and see a good sports physio asap - I had lots of muscle damage as well and she really helped me with it.

I broke mine jumping haylage bales

). Mine was completely displaced so I had it plated and screwed, and I was out hunting withing 4 weeks. It really depends how badly you've broken it, as most of the time collar bones heal fine on there own although you will probably be left with a lump. Hope you're back on board soon.

I broke mine 8-9wks ago. Put in sling and told to go back for x-ray after 6 wks which I did to find that it hadn't healed. However Consultant told me they don't like to do surgery because of possible problems (MRSA and the like I think) I have now been referred for 1wks intensive physio & hydrotherapy at a local Orthopedic Hospital. The good news was the Consultant gave me the go ahead to ride, he said it wouldn't do any harm, so I'm back in the saddle and although still painful at times it is gradually improving. However I really would not have liked to get on or off a horse for those first 6 wks.
I also have a great lump on my shoulder and was told that would not go away.
