Further to my post of only 2pm ish this afternoon, I went up to walk Maiden out for the first time at 4pm... she obviously overheard me planning her rehab this morning with my farrier as she is lame again, properly lame too with heat in the foot

Can't get hold of vet, off to beg/borrow/steal some chaff to put some bute in until I can get hold of vet tomorrow

That will be IT for another year now at the very least, if ever

Don't panic! Not sure what her history is but it's a strong possibility it could just be an abcess with the symptoms you describe. Is it worth calling the farrier out to see what he says?

Oh no. What a bummer. Take heart, fly had heat in his off hind 3 days ago but is completely fine today. Could be an abcess, see if your farrier would pop out again. Good luck anyway, and loads of positive vibes to you. xxx

Hmmm well when she went lame last year (when it was definitely the tendon) she took the weight off her left heel and there was a raging heat in her heel, with warmth on the front of the hoof. When she went lame last month, no heat, vet thought it may have been an abcess but couldn't find anything but a hole in her toe with some gravel in. She came sound after a couple of days. This time there is heat in the front of her foot and a little in the heel. I wonder if it is an abcess in that case, the same one from last month and vet just couldn't find it last time? In which case I shall phone farrier and get him to have a poke, and phone vet after...?

If its any consolation she was chasing poor old Chatty round the field earlier, after you'd gone, and didn't look any more unlevel than she did the other day when I was watching her. Perhaps in her haste to boss him about she forgot her discomfort

lol she doesn't like him that much! I went back about 45 mins/an hour later and gave her some bute, she was at the top of the field again and I had to walk her back down to the gate. She was definitely very lame, and was holding the left fore off the ground a bit when she was grazing. On the turn she is pretty much crippled
