I am looking after my friends new puppy for two weeks. Its been many many years since I had a puppy in the house, I think I may have forgotten how much hard work they are, I got seduced by soft brown eyes and floofy fur!

I have beds, food, toys, etc plus my two to keep her company and I am working from home at the moment, so can properly supervise and get on top of the potty training.

What is the current thinking about feeding - do you still give puppies a milky meal before bed time (used to be warm weetabix the last time I had a pup)?

Tips and advice gratefully received!

I’ve fed Colin 3 meals a day since I’ve had him at 10 weeks old - scrambled egg first thing, then as he is on a raw diet he gets a meat meal at lunchtime and again at 6pm. He looks rather well on it ?

What breed? Plus pics are obligatory..
I d follow the regime the breeder sends with the pup and let your friend do any gradual changeovers as per her choices.
Your list sounds like you are well equipped...I’d add a safety gate if you haven’t got one.

I tenderly bought goats milk for Colin - he looked at me in disgust as if I was trying to poison him, the whole lot went down the drain ?
I don’t blame him. I love to eat but anything goat related makes me want to heave. Goats cheese is just like licking a wet goat and after you have forced down without chewing your friend’s caramalised onion and goats cheese tart it repeats on you for hours so the horror seems never ending ???

Q&M that has just made me laugh out loud! I didn’t dare try the stuff myself I have to admit.... I’m so sorry you had that experience!

I get the same from puss cat who has turned into a fussy little git recently. Tripe is acceptable. Tongue is not. Chicken mince is acceptable, but chicken pieces (normally a favourite) are dropped and stared at as though made from (stinky) hot coals. They’re then accepted if handed to him individually. He’s never been fond of fish, so Bear is benefitting from a huge pack of sprats, like a performing seal!

CC what is it called/ packaging look like? I could pop into one of the polish shops and look for it. I will make it myself when I move, and Kombucha, but have to buy it at the moment. Dying to know what weird dietary changes you‘be made!

I took a pic and sent on messenger, it's too big to load here. I got it in Tesco, still a big EE population round here :)

Oh and just trying to eat more fruit and veg (via the medium of sauerkraut etc lol) and less crap/take out/booze.

They sell it in a lot of the supermarkets now, Tesco, Waitrose, Sainsburys, even Morrisons I think.

hexx...I've decided to offer to “adopt by proxy“ a mini pin,who elderly owner Ive known for many years ( via the park walks) .This old fellow had a mini for fifteen years and we would always swap a word or three....when his old girl passed on ,he got a new pin,a little Black and Tan..his wife is in long care hospital and the dog is all he has.Everyyear I make his dog a couple of wool lined coats and give a couple of jumpers ..as I did with the other one for years....I said to my hub the other day that this year I may leave my details with the old fellow to say if he ever needs to leave a name for a person to take on his dog, when he can no longer care for it,..no matter how old it is ,I will do that for him.. I believe it would take a lot of his mind and I’d be thrilled to take on the little dog if it meant he avoided the canile(pound)..a tiny will always fit in..these mini pins are really underrated as a breed. This little boy goes everywhere off lead, sticks to heel,is social and a little love.

They are cracking dogs, but I think you do need to get them as puppies and you have to train them well, particularly toilet training. I got B when he was 15 months old - he went into rescue direct from the breeder, however, the breeder had kept him and his sister in a crate since birth, he literally knew nothing about the outside world. He was terrified of absolutely everything. It took me 4 days to even get a hand on him and 6 months before he would voluntarily go in the garden after dark. He is 9 now and much better, but does have his peculiarities - he can be a total pillock sometimes. He was given the "ASBO" nickname after protesting about his jabs - he wee'd on the vet, then he pooped on the vet and then he finally resorted to throwing up on the vet!!
