Here is a letter I composed this morning:

"Dear Sir,

There is a 30 MPH limit on a road which connects my estate with the local village. There is not a single building which borders the road. Hardly anyone uses the road except for people going to and from the estate. I enclose a map indicating the location of this road.

I object to the 30 MPH limit.

On Saturday 9th September at precisely 9 am I shall break the law by deliberately driving along this road in my Bentley at 35 MPH. I will do this publicly in the hope that the law-enforcement officers will take the appropriate action."

I have sent this letter to the Head of the Anti-terrorism branch of the Metropolitan Police, The Prime Minister and Leader of the Opposition, Mr Jeremy Clarkson, The Governors of the BBC, Mr Rupert Murdoch, the editors of every UK newspaper, the news editor (Europe) of CNN, the Fox Network, TF1 (Fance), ARD (Germany), ABN (Japan) and ABC (Australia), Mr Kofi Annan, His Holiness The Dalai Lama, Her Majesty the Queen and the President of the Libertarian Alliance.

Good for you Tony, I'd actually (rather than just pretend to) send it to your local traffic officer. You'll get prosecuted. Unlike the Hunting Act, they will enforce that law. They let me chase animals with dogs. They won't let you speed.

Good luck with your campaign though.

I suggest that you also personally telephone the editor of your local paper.

May I point out that some of the names individuals do not have legal jurisdiction regarding UK speed limits and that including them was a waste of time.

I also point out that exceeding the speed limit by a small value will not have as much impact as exceeding by a much larger value.

RS

The local police don't listen to me. They say I'm a time-wasting fixated self-promoting and ultimately really boring chump with nothing better to do.

There's a guy on here called LACS who might be able to help you, he says that just because the law says that I can't flush out deer with four dogs actually I can.

It may be the same with your speeding law. Maybe it just vsays you can't go faster than 30MPH maybe it means that you can't go slower then 30MPH and it's just got itself wrong.

These things happen.

Thank you for your kind words, AA, but it makes no difference what anyone says to me. I'm so blinkered and fanatical that I'm going to carry on repeating the same boring thing again and again and again. I'm going to break the law and no one is going to do anything about it.

If you really can break the law again and again and no one stops you then I guess you've proved your point. There must be something wrong with it.

I'd like a law prohinbiting cruelty, I wouldn't break that.

"some of the names individuals do not have legal jurisdiction"

None of them do. Just tell your local police, they'll sort it out. It's their job.

Ah, but some of the names may help him get media or political attention. The Dali Lama might meditate for him, but that's about all.

The police should stop people openly breaking the law. Laws should be decided by the political process and enforced by the police wether or not they agree with them. If the law says shoot deer then those deer should die.

Good on you.

When people run out of arguments they just start taking the piss.

If the law is right I hope you get prosecuted, if it is wrong I hope you get away with it.

IMO speeding should be prosecuted, but let's leave it up to the police.

When did Mr Jeremy Clarkson become Prime Minister AND Leader of the Opposition? You can't turn your back for 5 minutes round here. My bro, who is a traffic cop, says it's 10% + 3, so do 40mph to be on the safe side.

No you don't!!! I've just been done at 33 in a 30!!!!!

madabout lives up to her name!!

''There is a new breed of sneaky, hidden camera being introduced - with no warning signs.''

Remarkable similarities to LACS' 'monitors' - sneaky, and disliked by the majority of the population.

However, the LACS monitors are totally inefficient, and we can still carry on hunting.

Well done 'Huntwatch. '

"They won't let you speed."

I wouldn't be so sure. I was doing 80mph on the motorway the other day and a police car raced past me. I expect the inhabitants had better things to do than waste their time on me.

I don't go round saying they let me speed with inpunity to all and sundry, though.
