I am going to put my neck on the line here....

Munchkin, LOL, me and OH spend most winter days in one hedge or another. In all seriousness we all have to be vigillant and i am not saying that people should'nt be on their guard, but the photo i have seen so far has to my mind onley been a wind tangle, and if you tried to do this yourself it would take longer than a proper plait.
Like i said at the begining i will try to find out more.
On the subject of tail cutting, don't panick if you see a NF pony for sale with part of its tail cut as this is how the foresters mark their stock.

Well its patently obvious that we all need to do just one thing to put an end to horse theft once and for all.

No, that won't work - the latest I've heard on my local forum is that they're now cutting manes and tails off as a sign!!

So if you're offered a pony with a hacked off mane and tail in a dark layby by a suspicious person you met in a pub, don't buy it, it's been stolen!!

here, in Italy, they cut the heads off! Its called 'butchering on the spot'.

What puzzles me and has all the way through these posts about these horse hustlers is if they are targeting horses to steal how the hell do they know if they will load or not some horses wont go in a box some wont go in a trailer how do they think they can cart them off so easily?!!

Applying a bit of sensible thinking to it...

1. No matter how much you love your heinz-57-with-wonky-legs pony, if any horse or pony is going to be scouted out and stolen to order, its likely to be a desireable type.

2. Are the plaits/tangles found in manes actually plaits or tangles? Surely there is a difference. A plait generally needs something to hold it in, no?

3. Has anyone actually researched all this white witch type ceremonies that have been known to leave plaits in horses'manes? Isn't it possible its a specific time of the year, or special year for that ceremony or something? Next year it'll be dancing naked around a woodlouse.

4. A bit of vigilance and attention to security does nobody any harm.

Suely, everybody should be on their guard with good security at ALL times. If this is the case, then it wouldn't make any difference if this were true. If you can, and will, up your security on the hearing of rumours, then surely you should have implememnted this security anyhow?
