First of all I would like to thank everyone who replied to my post on 9/9/08

As everyone was so helpful and understanding of my situation I thought I would let you know what has happen in the last 2 days

Basically after 1 week on box rest I turned my unpredictable filghty spooky horse out, again we have no problems going out to paddock....

Today the Parelli DVD arrived ... I watched it... and realised you were all toatally right ..get a pro to do it..

But the problem remained he still has to come in tonight so I put my hat on and I am ready to help my experienced handler to bring him in knowing this is gonna be bad.... ahhhh

So as I am suiting and booting I mentioned to the girl in the next stable (who is into parelli big time) that I was going to give it a go but get a pro in....good I hear you say...

well this girl jumps up and says fantastic I'll get him in for you. Which I replied no way not a good idea he knows no parelli yet and won't know what your asking and someone will end up injured....no I won't she says it will be fun....

fun..fun thats not what I call fun. So she is soooo insistant that I cave and say well I've warned you on your head be it.

I should add she has been doing parelli for some years.

Off we go and sure enough jimeny see us and decided he does not want to be caught.

So i followed exactly what she said and within 2 mins he was following us all round the field of his own free will....I was shocked.

When she spend 15 mins doing various things with the stick and shaking the lead rope to give him a basic crash course... then she says right we will take him in now..

It is too long winded to type it all out but did challenge her authority on the way but she did the same stuff as in the field and he backed off really quickly he was testing her for about 5 mins as we were going slowly and by halfway he was walking 3 feet behind her on a slack rope totally trusting and submissive and reacting to her every move no matter how small positively. He was a horse I had never seen before. I am agast and shocked that in 20 mins he was calm and relaxed. I can't emphesize the change he was completely the opposite to how he normally behaves. He walk in just like a normal horse happy and content to be led.... OMG This has never happened before it was always a battle on the way in.

This could be it... I won't get my hopes up ..and I have to learn it, (she said she will teach me) but my unpredictable dangerous hourse has never ..never been like that before.

I have been smiling from ear to ear since. I just wanted to share this incredable change with you.

I will let you know if this is a short term thing or if it really does change him..

I may just be able to keep my beautiful horse...

Thank you all

Have you tried to touch his head since she was near him? He may well be headshy now with all the stick waving and leadrope shaking........

I am by no means a fan of Parelli but if it can help you with your horse then fair play. Are you still going to get a pro in to help?

I know how great it is when you take a little step towards your goal - keep aiming for small steps is the best way - and celebrate every little one!

Hi no he is not head shy he was very trusting and it was more like he gave his repect to her.

She only appiled enough pressure to make him yield to her even if it was only a small shift in weight rather than a full movement.

after 10 mins he was moveing to the slightest jiggle on the line but was in no way headshy we kept stroking his head and he was very happy for us to do that.

No the girl at the yard said she was happy to teach me how to do it one to one . As her results were so evident I am happy she knows what she is doing

as I said he has no other problems at all... just coming IN from the paddock... the rest of the time he is lovelly.

Yes it was a small step in the right direction and I felt like I could see light at the end of the tunnel (or at the end of the walk In)

That's a very good result

Well done - the girl sounds as if she knows what she is doing I would get her to keep helping you. (I bet she has been itching to help but didn't want to be pushy lol!)

I just think if it works, it works regardless of the method used.

Am very please for you! xx

Aw, I'm glad you've found someone who can help you and you might not have to sell your horse. Whatever your doing, if its working keep doing it, even if it is evil parelli.

my horse was terribly headshy when i got her but that all changed after we got started with parelli. it is not violent in any way, i wouldn't have considered it if it was.
good for you jay d that you have someone on your doorstep that can help. it is amazing how quickly you will see a difference in your relationship with your horse. none of it is done with fear or violence. i have a partnership with my horse and she trusts my leadership. she is certainly not afraid of me.
lets not have this happy post marred by all the parelli haters.

So glad to hear you've got someone helping you, it's not something you can really learn from a dvd but if you have someone showing you then it's quite quick to pick up (NH i'm talking, i don't know much about Parelli

) keep us posted as to how you are getting on!

That sounds really positive. Lets hope she can help you long term.

Well done for giving him a chance though, and not getting rid at the first sign of trouble.

I responded to your previous post. I think I mentioned that my horse was a different horse within a few minutes of a Monty Robert's associate working with him. Totally different body language from him, and much more manners, after such a short time. He used to be very tricky on the ground.
You will need help though (and time) to get the system working for you personally. IMO it is the handler's body language, mental confidence and discipline (giving the same signals every time) that you need.
If you are not confident in yourself with the horse, this will come out in your body language. The horse will sense this and then you have a problem.
Without wanting to offend your friend, I would get a professional out who may be better at getting things across to you.
Sounds like you are on the right track now. You may well be delighted at the way your horse is after MR or Parelli work. I have never looked back, and BTW I am not a 'disciple' or fanatic of either method. I have used them for problems with success.

Glad its working and definatly glad you got someone who's done it before to give it a try. Problem horses aren't the best for learning a new method on! I still have real issues with paralli but if you making progress thats all that counts.

and just make sure you do nice things to his head every now and then! lol

I think you will find that when Parelli is done correctly this is not the case I have witnessed some very good results I think you may well have witnessed parelli practised by a muppet if you expect this to happen.

Missed your earlier post...are you working from the Sucess series or The Level 1 DVD's?
Glad you're making progress it certainly turned My Mad Malaga into Just Malaga and I'm now riding him thanks to a Parelli Colt Starter James Roberts in Wiltshire

I have to say, I even put into my loan contract on my mare 'no parelli', but if it is working, good for you. Do try to keep up the contact, and I would say, don't waste money on the DVD's... at its base it really is normal natural horsemanship and therefoore will work. Good luck, and let us know, please, how it goes!!!
