I am in a horrible situation - would be interesting to get your thoughts

Oh what a silly woman that buyer was! He looks gorgeous so I bet she just wanted a horse to show off!!
I cant believe the husband threatened you with trading standards. I just hope that they dont start spreading rumours to be malicious. You made his faults clear when selling him - its HER fault.

He sounds a lot better than some of the horses I have seen that perform well. I think its a thing where they do job that requires them to be on edge, that of course some of that is going to come out in the day to day side of things.

I hope you do find a nice home for him. With someone who isnt stupid.

At least all of your actions have been based on what's best for your horse, he's lucky to have you!

Buyers can be very unrealistic. I had a call from a young girl (sounded about 14ish) regarding a 2 year old eventer (Ben Faerie son x Kiltealy Spring mare) we have for sale. She wanted to know if she was being ridden & be able to jump as she wanted to do some shows. Unsurprisingly I didn't ask her to come & view, but suggested she wasn't the right horse for her.

How can you have a 2 yr old eventer out of interest? Potential eventer maybe?

This happened with the horse I have now. He was first sold to a young girl and her mother, they had him a week and then were on the phone complaining. He too is a big horse but he never bucks or even spooks, he bounces on the spot and does tiny rears occasionally and is a little strong, but he is big. They complained he walked off when being mounted and was strong to lead in hand. Having had him 6 months myself I can clearly see these are not problems but if you only give a horse a week? What is the world coming to? Why buy a 17hh horse in the first place if you are so nervous? Stupid people should take responsibility for their own actions and not waste everyone's time by buying horses they can't manage. Since you have him back, I would simply re-advertise and hopefully you will get that precious sensible buyer coming along. As for my boy, he's fab to hack and has been placed in his first three BSJA shows but it took me 4 months to get used to him.

Sounds like you were honest with her about your horse and TBH I don't think 2/3 weeks is very long for a horse to settle. Also, knowing your boy had a few issues hacking out alone why stress him so early  I'd have hacked him out in company until he got used to me, I got used to him and he was more settled in his new home.

You could refuse to collect him although, like you, I'd want him away from new owner ASAP. I'm sure you could sell or loan him to a more capable rider.
I don't know how old he is but I hope you don't have to PTS if the sarcoids don't bother him

Good luck

I am sure there will be someone out there who is prepared to put the time and effort in to get along with your horse. For someone capable and confident that wants experience, but who is on a limited budget, a horse like yours is an attractive option! I currently have on loan a horse with really bad sarcoids, who is extremely cold backed, bucks like crazy and can often be very naughty to ride and handle but is an event schoolmaster so I think it is worth putting up with all his behavioural problems for the huge amout that I can learn from him. I am sure there are other juniors who would feel the same and would have the patience and competence to persist with your horse's issues to gain competition expereince on a decent horse that they probably wouldn't have been able to afford without the sarcoids/quirks. Don't be put off that things haven't worked out first time round - i would imagine with a horse like that that it might take time and a few attempts to find the right rider, but i wish you the best of luck with finding one! :)
