Ali usually comes in in the evening, especially in this sh*te weather! Arrived at the yard at about 4ish, go up to one of the fields to collect Ali, and the poor chap is standing under the shelter of the trees looking very miserable. Brought him in, and was a bit shocked to find that he was soaked to the skin, literally. Take off his rug, chuck it on one of the rug racks to dry off, Ali was there shivering a bit, felt very sorry for him. Put a fleece rug on him (I'm glad I got it off Ebay when I bought Ali, never thought I'd actually use it though tbh!), that helped warm him up and dry him off after about 45 minutes, he didn't look miserable either. When he was fully dry I rugged him up in a LW stable rug, I never actually thought I'd be using one in summer... As his turnout rug was only a lightweight, I thought perhaps it was only showerproof. Go to check his dripping wet rug, it said on the label it was waterproof, I wouldn't have been so angry if it had only said showerproof. I am not impressed at all, I got it washed about a month ago, check the old reciept and I had also got it reproofed. I am NOT one bit impressed. The rug is only about a year old (came with him though), and most of the rugs I own are by this brand, I have never had trouble with them before and I used to have no trouble recommending them to friends and many others. I don't expect my horse to come in soaked to the skin and miserable at all, ARGH! Rant over sorry, I am a very very angry Caroline though!

I have l/wght rugs that are expensive and good quality. But they still are not totally waterproof esp if I wash and do not re-proof. I'd go and buy a coupla cans of reproof and spray it......see what happens........

How annoying. Like I say tho IME l/wght rugs have never been foolproof when it comes to rain............I dunno what to suggest......It almost makes me think we're better off not bothering, at least a naked horse can dry quicker than one trapped inside a wet rug.....

My boy goes out without a rug during the day, I know it's raining but it's hardly cold is it?? Sorry may just be my inexperience showing through, and the fact that I don't have a turnout rug at the moment!!

the reproofing is never as waterproof as the original proofing if the rug is a quality one.

tbh I don't see the need for all this posh rug washing - a hose, broom and hung on the fence used to be sufficient and tbh the horse doesn't give a toss if his rug is pristine or covered in sh1t (and probably prefers the latter !!)

and better off paddocking for a few hours in this weather and then letting them back into a nice dry stable than leaving 'em out in the rain - some can cope and some can't

this weather is the pits.

Go back to the people who washed and proofed it - they did not do the job correctly. I suspect they used the wrong waterproofer for your rug type. I have mine washed and reproofed every year and they are all waterproof after 6 years. it is not I suspect the type of rug you bought but the proofing.

The Amigo rugs ARE THE BEST. Clo, Mo and Kali each have lightweights and they have held up to the heaviest rain, as have their middleweight rugs. I can't recommend the horseware stuff enough as I have been using it on my horses for years and have found all of their brands consistantly great.
