Got my mare up for loan, had lots of enquiries, got a few wanting to view.

So this woman was supposed to come today and see her. I was working am + pm at the yard, so was rushing to make sure I was done in time. Got the horse in and gave her a good groom and psyched myself up a bit. 12.15 came, and went. 12.45 came, and went. By the time we had sat around for an hour we gave up.

To make things worse, my dad turned down tickets to the NZ v england rugby because this had been arranged

I did not get a single call, text, anything. WHAT HAPPENED TO MANNERS? Yeh there may be a genuine reason, but pick up the bloody phone!!!!

grrrr, how awful for you. theres nothing worse than waiting for someone whos got no intention of showing up.
Fair enough if something cropped up last minute but like you say what happens to manners and giving you a quick ring to apologise and cancel.

i really hope you have better look with other prospective loaners.

I know it is soooo annoying i had 3 people to view the hunter i was selling one sunday and NONE of them turned up!! not one phone call text or email!!! - got so annoyed i've sent him somewhere else to sell where the lady can be there and sort all of these people out!!

They are so annoying i had the same thing was suppose to be coming in the afternoon got the day off work waited around until time they were suppose to be coming 2 hours later still no signs never heared anything

That happened to me a couple of times when i loaned out one of mine - so frustrating - not as annoying though as the buggers that did turn up having told me they can ride/ jump/ hack etc then when they got on and rode could barely manage rising trot...shocking and very awkward to tell them that i didnt want them to loan my horse.

I was supposed to go and see a mare today, although did send a email to the later as I've gone and lost damn charger for phone...doh!

Sorry about your timewaster I had this when I was putting Merlin out of loan a few years ago....

Its so annoying - yes, its happened to me too!!

On the other hand I've also had to show a horse to potential buyers- (worked on an event yard and had a heavy weight hunter in for sale!) I had never ridden him before, i duely got on and 'showed him off' - looked odd me riding a 17.2hh BIG horse!!! They loved him, and came out 4 more times to try again with experience helpers, each time I had to find extra time to assist. On the day of money being exchanged they changed their mind in a way we got no money!! We had a short text saying 'they weren't having him'. DOH

I'd be a bit more street-wise next time hun. Explain politely that you have been let down by time wasters so you will wait eg 15 mins after the allotted appointment time then go. Maybe you could include getting in from the field and grooming a mud monster as part of the viewing/trying?

I had one that came about 5 times. They wanted to ride her in the sand school the first time, then they wanted to ride her in the field, then they wanted to take her for a hack, then they decided they wanted to try jumping eventhough it said in the advert she would only do small jumps, then they came back again just to see her. She was perfect with all these things and jumped bigger than she had ever jumped before so why did they turn her down?......because she wouldnt be caught in the field. They didnt even try!! (Our stables is right infront of the field so we just ope the gate and they wander in) So annoying.

really feel for you. When I had my horse up for sale I had somebody enquiring by text, wanting to come and see him, asked how much he was being sold for and I told them. The day they were coming I had a funeral that morning so in order to get to the yard on time to meet them I would have to leave the wake early. I had a text on my phone (which i didnt recieve untill after the funeral) saying they were now about to leave and asking me again how much the horse was?? Anyway 2pm came...2.30...3pm... Nothing!! rang them, no reply! ended up texting them to ask where they were ect and never got anything back!

I once had a jumping pony available for lease. A girl called, was very interested, but wanted to hire a SJ arena to try him over a decent course. They stayed in touch all week, sent photos and details of all her results, her sponsors etc... we boxed the horse up there (20 mins away), paid for the arena, and they didn't show up. Tried to call, ignored calls. Unbelievable.

To add to that, I went to view a horse recently, 2 hours' drive away. Arranged the time and date, called to confirm before leaving, etc. When I arrived there was nobody at the yard, so I called and called them - no answer.

Eventually, someone else turned up at the yard and I explained I was there to view a horse. She said they'd sold it that afternoon and gave me the daughter's mobile number to try instead. When I got hold of the daughter she said "oh yeah, we sold it." I asked her if she thought it might have been an idea to let me know. Her reply? "Nah."

Had the same happen to me some years ago only it was a three your drive away!

Also had to sell a horse some years ago and had some-one who tried him four times, loved him, had him vetted (which he passed) and then never turned up to collect him and never got in touch. I think some people are just after a free ride ?

I know someone who I now call a 'professional timewaster'.

She enquires after a horse, goes to ride it several times then says she has had a family emergency and is no longer in a position to loan/buy the horse, but moves swiftly on to another when the whole process begins again.

In my naivety and willingness to help others i put her in touch with a couple of people I knew who had horses for loan, but will now have nothing to do with her.

People like this give all viewers a bad name
