a cavalier king charles spaniel :D

He is 4 years old, and is an absolute dream!

I was at a breeders having a chat about her future litter of GSD's, when she got a phone call asking if she knew anyone who wanted him, so I thought I'd go and see him and he is gorgeous!

His name is Whisky and he is KC registered (not that it matters to me)! :D
He's blenhiem (?) (red and white :o )

Oooh, I love him! :D

His old owners couldnt handle him because he is a bit wild, not agressive, just very unresponsive.

He's really friendly, and just a generally happy dog, though I have been advised at times one of his back legs hurts him, and he'll whimper but they've had it checked by the vets and its nothing serious!

I've let him settle in, and have took him on a walk so he's just lay in his bed snoring away  He'll sit, lie and shake - but only when foods on offer! :p I really want to train him to walk next to me on a lead, and not pull for england! and hopefully eventually he'll be allowed off the lead and he'll come back to me rather than doing a runner!

Ooh, Im so excited! :D

I don't have any pictures at the moment, and in any case I don't know how to upload them :o but he's lush!

ummm... so yeah, thats it for now! :D
wish me luck ;) :p
thanks!

(p.s I'm still hoping to get a GSD later on, litter will be born in november, and she prefers to keep them for 12 weeks :D )

Congratulations! Cayla has a Cavvie called Pancake, she is a proper little dog:) I think these dogs (like many small dogs!) can suffer from the dolly treatment syndrome, when actually they can be really tough little dogs given half a chance! You could even try doing some basic gundog training in the fullness of time, OK you might never work him (and of course you might not want to anyway) but it might appeal to him as a way of getting him working with you, not against you.

If his back legs are down to his joints, my vet recommended Joint Aid as a supplement, which seems to be helping my Henry:)

I agree, I think he's got away with being naughty/cheeky and just figured it was better that way! can't say I blame him really :p

I'd love to do something like gun dog training, but in all honesty I'd have no idea how to go about it :o

Oooh, thanks, will definatley be googling that! :D

If you do decide you'd like to try it once he is settled and you feel ready, then you can certainly get some useful pointers on here - I did:)

Ooh, definately! :D I'll wait till he's settled and focus on the "simple" things, like stay, come, etc first and then the world is our oyster :p :D

I have no idea on his breeding, I could find out? :)

CC - its a woman starting up a gsd stud, her name is julie ashcroft? Her bitch is from fremen gsds, (I think you gave me the link to them?) and her stud dog has good lines apparently ( not that I'd know :o ) , I met both dogs and they are gorgeous and have really nice temperments :) I love the fact she was so honest and welcoming. She said I can go back to have a look as many times as I like and was really helpful about advice when I get the pup. I also got to see her first litter and all the pups were gorgeous and were obviously healthy. They'd all been reserved since birth :p I'm planning on visiting a few more breeders to get a feel for the place but do have a good feeling about this one! I would recommend her to anyone :)

Love that you went about a shepherd and came back with a cavvie, certainly a bit different. He sounds as if he just needs a few ground rules laid down, best of luck with him and we do of course need those pics. Look forward to updates on the GSD soon, I would try and persuade the breeder to let you have a pup at 8 weeks, you will miss some of the best bits. :D

Others may disagree, but I would ask the old owners to leave it a bit longer before visiting, it could unsettle him seeing them so soon. Is he entire, it could be they are keeping the papers so you can't breed from him, which is understandable, but still worth asking about his pedigree.
Re the GSD, Fremen is a good line, would be interested to know the name/breeding of the proposed dad, and of course as I am sure you have already been told, make sure both parents have low hip scores (ask to see the score sheets). You are wise to visit other breeders too, then you can really weigh up the pros and cons of them all, ideally you want to find a breeder who is having a litter to improve their line and keep a pup, not someone who is in it just for the money.
