Went jumping last night with a mare that I ride for the owner, just started jumping her at shows now, she's doing ok and I had the half day off work yesterday to get things organised, horse ready, box loaded etc etc...did a few practice jumps, did a few clear rounds, OH and father came to watch all excited (because we got a second last week) so of course everyone having high hopes and counting me to do this mare justice and went in the jumping class....and what did air head do here, take the wrong course and jumped no.7 instead of no.3

DURHHH!

Its not like I didn't know the course, nor do I suffer from nerves or anything like that...just complete numptyness!

All I can remember is thinking yes she jumped the first well, nice rhythm and canter for the next, yes that was nice also, landed on correct let and were doing well here we'll keep her in a canter (she's a spooky mare, only just started jumping and it was her 3rd time out) and then I popped the next one and the bell went!

Totally gutted, I just couldn't believe what I'd done, I've been jumping for years....what on earth was I playing at, not only embarrassing

but I was just so mad with myself

....hence the hitting the chocolate and ice cream last night to help sooth the disappointment.

oooo, sorry to hear that hun, know how you feel, must be worse when it's someone elses horse too.
I once jumped the last fence in the wrong direction, but was being carted at the time

.
Very embarrassing, but not so bad as all the ooooo's and tittering from the audience at my very unladylike language as I tried to regain control!

I'll borrow my dad's sat nav next time

'' take your next left, keeping bear left, head straight on for jump no. 3'' says the annoying woman from Tom Tom

oh well, I'll sit back in my corner and adjust my dunce hat, it's a bit sweaty, did someone turn the lights out?

Oh yes, been there, done it, got the t-shirt, more than once! I actually cried one time afterwards because we were doing so well and I was just so frustrated with myself, I was about 24 at the time! On the positive side at least it was you and not the horse that got it wrong. Sometimes you just have to laugh these things of, or you will cry like I did!

Hey I did the whole crying thing last week!

When my own horse was supposed to be going to his first show, got him all ready and he wouldnt load (first time he's refused to) ....so there I was sobbing away like some spoilt little kid.

so I just wacked myself on the head this time (well my riding hat) with my whip and tucked my blonde hair into the back of my jacket... in shame!

and hit the comfort food and said I dont care if I get fat!!!

I should be old and wise but the last jumping comp i did i jumped the last jump then promptly fell of and then realised the last fence was not part of the course!

We've all done something like that - I once had a clear round except I'd missed out the last fence and of course left the arena grinning like an idiot because I thought I was in the ribbons!
