.....didn't quite go to plan.

I was supposed to be having a fitting for a synthetic everyday saddle for Oliver so that we could keep the WHP show saddle for shows as it's got a suede seat and knee rolls. Not to mention, it's also Tweenie's saddle not his. Good news is that it fits both of them like a glove so can be put on either for showing.

Saddler came out.....tried on the thorowgood.....didn't like them on him!

Soooooo......I bought an English Leather Fieldhouse Pony Club saddle instead! Now, how do I explain that one to the hubby?

Was it you that didn't like the Thorowgood saddles on him or the saddler? If latter then there's your excuse.
However, I have a horrendous version of one that my OH hated so much on sight (we got it with our new horse), that he is buying me a Wow saddle - my OH is grudgingly sitting on said evil saddle until the fitter comes out next week. I will happily send your Hubby a pic to confirm that you really couldn't possibly have bought one

Apologises to anyone who has a Thorowgood saddle but mine is apparently an old version and really is awful!

It depends what kind of person he is...

If I was breaking it to keiran I would tell him the kids at pony club would laugh at her for being in a thorowgood saddle - playing on pride works well with men.

If it was my mother I would say the leather one was half price or on some kind of offer and was brillant value...She thinks of money saved not spent....

If it was someone not horsey and not with it I would fool them into thinking that the leather one was the only opinion.

Whoops - nice saddle.

When I bought Chancer's saddle I told OH how wonderful it was to ride in and being treeless meant he would not out grow it and I also use it on Cairo so it is such a bargin...

Can you do something like that?

Then I screwed up, and said that whilst good for low jumping, hacking and dressage, I would maybe need a show saddle later if Chancer does really well - and even more daft said that the treeless working hunter I really like was about £1800...

Not impressed is the best expression I can describe his face.

Neither of us drink!

He's ok, I'm sure he'll forgive me......eventually.

I like your thinking FMN! I'm pretty sure synthetics would be sniggered at when she joins the PC.

A Thorowgood to a Wow? Nothing like going from one extreme to the other is there?

To be fair, neither of us liked the fit of the Thorowgood's on Ollie or Tweenie (we were trying her out too as either of them could've kept the WHP saddle we has, it fits them both)

The panels on the new saddle are much wider, better load bearing surface for the rider's weight. Not such an issue when Hannah's riding, but better for those times when an instructor may hop on board. The saddle I've bought just seems to fit him so much better and Hannah felt closer to him and not perched on top.

Lovely saddle that wasn't actually that dear, in the grand scheme of things. Perhaps I should tell him your "tale of two saddles" and he'll probably be grateful I "only" bought the one I did!
