I have had my horse six days now, and he is fantastic, I have taken him in the school and he was brilliant, it was me who wasn't!.

I have just come back from a hack on my own for the first time, we passed squealing pigs, he snorted and grew in height about a foot, but went straight passed them, we then met a dump truck and I thought oh no, he didn't bat an eye when he went passed it and the engine noise was really loud. There couldn't be anything else surely after all this was Sunday morning, but yes we passed several cars down a small lane and they didn't want to stop and just carried on, again didn't bother at all, then to cap it all we passed a white van and just as we were going passed a man jumped out of the back doors, my heart jumped, he raised his head, gave him a stare and then casually walked past!.

He has truely proved him self today and it felt great, when you go and look at horses to buy people tell you how good thet are in traffic etc, etc, and you try and put them through every test you can, but its not until you get them home un their new surroundings that you know what they are really like.

Sorry to go on , but i am so happy he's the right one , but also relieved that I haven't bought a wrong'n. I know its early days but so far so good.!!

Oh and he's fantastic with my children, who fuss over him like mad.

That's lovely - we picked up a new pony for my daughter on Thursday and he seems to be absolutely perfect too - its such a good feeling isn't it when it's all going well.

That's such good news. When I got the younger Appy, I felt like you after our first hack. The old one hated big vehicles and tractors and when I rode the younger one I was spooking at big vehicles and she just ignored them (and me) and got on with the job, she is spooky at wheelie bins etc. but magnificent in traffic, Good luck and I hope he stays as good.

now you know he is good, you must rid yourself of any nerves you have or else he may pick up on this and start looking for stuff.

well done.

Yes Cahill you are right, I am looking ahead for things that he might stress over. now I'm just going to enjoy my self around the lanes & bridleways with a HUGE big grin on my face.!!

Thanks yorkshireyearling, it is great that he is so relaxed with the kids, but they have to learn to respect him and he could hurt them after all they are only 5 & 8 years old, so I am a horrible mum always telling them "don't stand there, watch your toes, blah, blah ,blah.

all I need to do is improve my riding- now that's the hard bit!

great to hear things are good! You will be floating on a cloud all day now! - Only had my newbie for a couple of weeks but havent ventured out on my own yet so well done for bieng so brave!!!!

Walder- i must admit I was a little nervous, what if I couldn't get him passed things, or if he spooked in traffic, but I have ridden him so much in the school, so thought go for it, I wanted to go out on my own before he went out with others, I have a fear of napping horses.

Good luck with your new horse.
