Some of you may remember the story of the mare who was here for a good few years on retirement livery. The owner couldnt pay her keep and asked me to find her a good home or she would have her put down.The mare, via the 'anti vivs', went to a place where their inspectors had 'okayed' as being suitable for a horse.

The place was a shitheap and the people believed that equines were/are 'ruminents'

. To cut a long story short, the mare was re-rescued and taken to a 'friends' yard and turned out with the broodmares. I was sooo happy for her.....! When oh went to see her a while ago she was completely unshod-so far so good.'Friend' told us that a girl was interested in having her on lone to hack out at walk....okay by me. OH saw the mare a little while after and mare is now shod but not by the blacksmith who 'unshod' her

. We were informed via the 'grapevine' that the mre was being used on paying hacks

.I was paying livery to then have my mare hired out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We said nothing and oh arranged to her picked up today and bring her home. The appointment was for 11'30 this morning and the app was made yesterday. Oh turned up and found my 'friend' absent, her oh in the school riding and my mare out in a field up to her eyes in mud

. Now what has really piiiiiiiiiiiiiised me of is the fact that she has been HOGGED without my consent-she has nooooooooo bloooody mane at ALL. I have phone Petra and she told me that the hogging had been done by a 'Gaucho' who comes every summer and that he had shod her too! She said that she knew nothing about the hogging but was going to sack him tomorrow but if I wanted to talk to him I could go next week?????????????? If youre going to sack him on the spot how can I possibly talk to him next week

Was also informed by a very good source that so far, five horses have been put down due to colic caused by the ingestion of canapa bedding=not feeding enough and correctly! I am livid and upset at what the mare has gone through-she went awat a soppy cow and has come back uptight and agressive towards other horses-she went after my boy who had been her best buddy. Will post some before and after photos later. I feel positively sick

she will chill out when she realises that she is back with you. sounds like she has had a lucky escape returning to you.
 
OK, take a deep breath and relax a little bit. You've done absolutely the right thing by taking the mare home and now she's back in your care you can get her right again. She'll hopefully calm down and realise that she's not going to be abused any more. Your 'friend' sounds like a right fruitcake and shouldn't be allowed near a horse!
 
OMG its lucky that she's come back to you again. Good thing you have been kept up to date with whats been happening to the poor thing. Hopefully it won't be long before she realises she's home again and can relax
 
Sorry but this is what happens when you try palming off knackered horses. It sounds like you've had more than your fair share of grief today and that you were trying to do the right thing re-homing this horse for your friend but true companion homes are few and far between. Most people who take on a horse want it to do some sort of job and it sounds like this one can't. If the owner who enjoyed it through its useful years couldn't afford to keep it through its retirement why should the burden be passed on to someone else? Whoever is responsible for this horse should get some backbone and have it PTS.
 
I would be angry, too, and very upset! You did what you thought was best for this horse, and were very let down and misled. I hope the poor mare comes good again in your care. What a terrible story, Mairi

You must be gutted, how awful for you and the mare.
Hopefully she will soon settle back into the lovely mare you remember. Just who can you trust these days?

. I cant keep her as I dont have the space and to be honest, I cant fill up my boxes with my own horses. I only have 9 boxes and depend on liveries to keep going.I would love to be silly rich and have oodles of boxes full of rescue cases and my own private gee gees-sadly, this isnt the case. Jap has already been promised a home for life with the person who has sent me the Haffie to be re broken. He is a lovely person, has a huge estate., oodles of dosh and a love for anything with 4 hooves. Jap will have 5 star care and I wil see her every week when I go to school the Haffie. Please, positive vibes for Japs future-I cant cope with the stress anymore

Jap today. The vet is coming out tomorrow -she cant breath=broken winded? Ive given her Dexodresin IM this evening and have to repeat it tomorrow morning. Shes racing up and down the fence as I type this and to be honest, I dont know how it wil end up. She is so stressed that....
