I went to visit my parents last week, and we took all the dogs out along the river. Otto hasn't been off his long line since Christmas, but we decided to see how he would be, as the ground has little scent and you rarely meet another dog....

Well he was fantastic, stayed within sight and came back when I called him - cue a very

me!!

Today we took him on our normal walk through the woods, so lots of exciting smell, and furry things to chase. We started off on the long line practised a bit of recall, which he did perfectly, so I decided to let go of his long line to see how he would behaved, but so I could grab the line if necessary.

He was brilliant again! He stayed close, and on the odd occasion he did roam slightly further, he keep looking up to check where we were and came back to us before going exploring again! He came back to me when I called, and responded to NO! and This Way perfectly!

I am soooo pleased! I really didn't think he would be so well behaved when the lead came off, but he is progressing really well

His walking on the lead is getting better too.

So anyone who is struggling with recall - dont give up! My Dad said that he didn't think Otto would ever be good off the lead, he was soooo naughty and deaf, but in just a few months he is a completely different dog.

He is even starting to take an interest in treats and toys out walking, which is something that he just would have never done before!

He has changed so massively in the past 4 months. So much more Human orientated now. In the past he wouldn't even lift his nose from the floor, now he comes out of cover and looks for us.

He wouldn't react to anything, treats were spat out, squeaky balls went unnoticed and I may aswell not have bothered being there for all the notice he took of me, but today he went to go off into a thick bit of cover and I said "No" he stopped and looked at me and I said "This Way" and he followed me off down the path.

He still has a long way to go, but at least we're going forwards!

We did it again today, he didn't stick quite so close, but he was fab! He was turning to come back as I was still saying his name

He is shattered now, he went for a run with OH this morning whilst I rode, towards the end of our second walk, he was walking right next to us even though I hadn't told him to, he was just tired to run around!

thats so good!
my puppy is going along similar lines! Easily distracted by other dogs, but at the moment when he is off the line if there is another dog, but at present he is turning when called n coming back when called!!! not 100% but about 90% occassionally 99%
yey ok go us!!!
