I am too big for my pony and my mare is too old

He looks almost identical to my boy. There is PLENTY of bone there and he would carry me with ease. If he is anything like H, he will have a good jump too.

Out of interest, do you know who his breeder was? Or which heard he is from?

I know very little about him. His passport says cross bred.

Whyyy dont you either loan out your mare as a companion/happy hacker? or turn her away, and if she doesnt cope with the bad weather then maybe invest in a feildshelter? then put haynets and her feeds in there? then sell your nf and get something bigger and more experienced?

I did go an see a place earlier which had three paddocks a field shelter 3 mins from home. Only issue is will she be ok out in the winter? She has always had a stable. I am dubious. Plus they are both looked after 24/7 on part livery. I don't think I could go back to DIY again.

The real question for me, is - are you writing this post because of what other people have been saying about you and your horses, or are the doubts coming from you yourself? I don't think you are either too big or too heavy for your pony and if you are happy with him then there's no need to sell. If on the other hand you feel too tall, or too heavy, then you could do something about it by selling him or losing a few pounds - it would be fairly easy and of no detriment to you health to lose half a stone or so, plus I bet you'd be left with a figure to die for!

With regard to your mare, it doesn't seem very fair to sell her but could you look into cost cutting be having her on DIY or finding her a sharer, or maybe loaning her as a companion? Good luck whatever you decide.

I am sorry to say this but I would say A.

Your mare needs to go somewhere where she can be a companion for someone and can be ridden by the grandkids every now and then, where someone has lots of time to give her love and has the money to spend on her.

Your little fella. You have been a fab mum and now it is time he flew the nest. You did him proud but if you really cant ride him you dont want all that hard work to go to waste, its not fair on him or you. You can always keep track of his progress but as they say IF YOU LOVE HIM SET HIM FREE

It will be so hard but if you dont do this you will still be asking yourself the same question in a year.

Thanks. I must say she gets an awful lot of love and I spend a fortune on her.

Ok, I would find a field for the summer and give mare the summer out with a friend and shelter. Then back to part liver in the winter, this would save you a lot! Sell the pony, he's nice but would be a good childrens pony by the looks of him. You've done a good job on him and he would thank you for this. If you can't bare to sell straight away maybe loan him out with view to buy and then get yourself either another project cheaply with the money you have saved from the part livery bills, or get something else a bit bigger on loan.

PS- I wouldn't even think of selling the 20 yr old mare, she does not deserve this!

You are not too big for your pony at all, please don't let other peoples comments get you down. People who make comments like this are usually just jealous anyway.

I would try to find grass or retirement livery for your mare or get a sharer to help with costs.

This is my new forest Horrid Herbie.

I'm 5ft2 and weigh about 8 1/2 - 9 stone and he's only 12.3hh. I plan to do a bit of everything with him inclu endurance and jumping once i stop him from rearing, bucking and leaping with me!!!!!!!!!!!!
So i don't think you are to big for yours.

I'm going to rep for the oldies here! I've just started sharing a 20 year old ISH and he has no health issues at all, and can do absolutely everything any other horse I've ever ridden can do. Are there any health issues which would stop you riding your mare? If not, once a horse hits 15 it doesn't mean they are over the hill!

I would keep the mare, and sell the youngster - he can go onto bigger and better things, and your mare probably would want to stay settled with you.
