I want to sell a saddle but it has been modified - it's basically an Ideal Jessica qith suede seat and knees but had the girth straps shortened, a 3rd girth strap and has Fylde nails - add to that it is wide - local saddlery didn't have much hope as it was 'altered' and they thought that it would only be around £200!! Have I really goofed by changing a dressage saddle?

Dressage saddles are something we are all particular about and if you are a serious dressage rider you will not want a saddle that has short girth straps that sit under your thigh with the buckles! its all about getting the closest contact possible and to have buckles in the way is defeating the object!. I would be inclined to put it on ebay for £300 if in good condition as there are all walks of life on there looking for a saddle to suit them and you never know it may be good for another 'showing' person.

You can have the straps re-altered - it is no big deal so absolutely rubbish that you wont sell it. Of course, you will have to reflect this in the price.

Depends on the size of the seat as well - 17" and 17.5" ok - 18" is a bit harder to shift.
