As I was coming up to my gate on my bike, I noticed a lady walking with her large dog who happened to stop and poo right in front of my field gate. She saw it poo but then kept on walking so I called out "Excuse me please" and asked her politely if she could pick up her dog's poo as it's a bit disgusting picking it out of my horse's hooves. I even offered her the Sainsbury's bag in my bike basket if she didn't have one.

Anyways, she picked it up and I said thank you.

I know pointless post but I'm fed up with people leaving big dog poos in front of my gate where I have to walk with my bike and Hattie (plus having my son avoid treading in crap). I pick up after my dog when I take her to my field but a lot of people think because it's the countryside, they can leave their poo everywhere just because horses do.

And why do people pick up their dog muck in little baggies, then just leave them, what is the point in that? Little nappy sacks full of poo hanging in hedges, gross!

Maybe the dog was in the habit of using your gateway and now you've mentioned it, the owner will start clearing it, or getting the dog to go somewhere else, I hope, not nice

At least she picked it up when you asked, and did'nt get bolshy or rude with you.

i don't mind it so much on the edge of the field in the long grass, but we get a lot of it around the gate, and all people say is what about the horse poo?

Dog poo....ergh!!! We have lots of dogs at the yard, some live there, and some are brought up by their owners. So about 12 in total, and you can imagine the amount of poo that is about!

Horse poo is full of nice organic waste from vegetation :D - dog's poo is from a carnivore :p! Different stuff! Also, imagine the size of the poo bags we would have to carry around! ;)

I asked someone to do the same once too, they said 'well if your horse shits on the road where i drive my dog can **** where you walk' aarrrgh I was fuming! I really did give them a mouthful! Havnt seen them since, and it's a good job too, i might just grab a bit of horse poo and shuv it where the sun don't shine!

A dog pooed twice by our yard the other day and the walker even asked us for a plastic bag! Unfortunately we didn't have one, so he just left them both saying, "Oh well, I was trying to get him to wait till we got to the field". ERM excuse me, you should still pick it up regardless of where he does it!!!

I have 2 dogs and happily pick up after them, i hate doing it but i hate it on my shoes even more, so at yard it is dog poo free and when out any where i have my little dog poo bag in pockets and end up walking around with a lovely bag of poo till i find bin.
At least the lady picked it up and did not give you a load of abuse like some people would do in these times

I do this - but only when I am going on a circular walk and put it in the bin when I get back, rather than carrying it round for 2 hours!

Yuk! Our council have started putting up signs on fences/gates, little plastic things that tie on. I never go for walks without keys, phone, millions of bags. Brig pooed epically one day-10 in under an hour, God knows what was wrong with him.

Good for you!
A neighbour with two little dogs would allow them to poo on the pavement right outside my mother's gate. My mother had asked her to clear it as I had. One day they both did it on the pavement and I offered her a shovel and broom to clear it but she totally ignored me and walked home.
I was so mad I shovelled it up and knocked on her door and when she opened it I threw the poo down her hallway and told her that every time I found dog poo outside my mother's house I would return it to her.
It worked.

Good for you OP! people not picking up after their dogs is one of my pet peeves. How hard is it to do fgs? Our local park is covered in it. The Sunday leaguers and kids football class coaches have to go around & clear the pitches before games. Even seen people with their kids just blithely carrying on whilst their dog poops....they'd be the first to scream if their kids caught toxacara (sp?)

i've offered people bags before now when it becomes clear they're just gonna leave it. Responses vary from being told to feck off, being totally ignored, and embarrassed acceptance and excuses "i forgot to bring any bags or he's done so many i've run out of bags " (so where are they then bearing in mind this particular park has a total of 3 dogwaste bins in an area covering 104 acres and ordinary waste bins only on the one paved area that runs thro it)

Worse was my delightful neighbour who let his dog poo in the communal garden and so got we other dog owners into trouble with the housing assn as ofc they didnt know who it was. You can be sure we let em know who it was tho, and strangely it stopped when another neighbour bagged it and posted it thro his door :p

That is disgusting. Counclis spend so much money keeping byways open to dogwalkers and they literally **** on them.

Dogshit causes toxicariasis e.g. blindness. It is indiscriminate you don't have to be a child. No one should put up with it.

Dog fouling is covered by several legislations:

The Dog (Fouling of Land) Act 1996 in England and Wales.

The Dog Fouling (Scotland) Act 2003 .

Litter (Animal Droppings) Order 1991 - Made under section 84 (14) of the Environmental Protection Act 1990

Statutory Instruments Nos 2762 and 2763

DoE Circular No 18/96 (Welsh Office No 54/96)

I just love NZ laws on dog poo - pick it up or get fined. We have dog poo bins dotted around - large blue dog shaped containers.

Rarely now do you find poo in places you don't want it. Dogs are banned from most of the parks and also from the National Parks. So you rarely meet them out on rides.

Yes the same law applies in England pick it up or you get fined. If they dont pick it up you can report them to the dog warden. Its quite good near us as they are now doing checks early in the morning when people are walking their dogs around the parks. Why do people let their dogs go on kids playing fields? Have never understood that one even if they pick it up.

I know in York they are asking people to take photos for evidence of the people not picking up.

Many moons ago a lady kept letting her dog poo on my front garden i warned twice i have my own to dogs to clear up after anyway picks up here dog poo in bag added some water and poured it though her letter box never happened again

At least she owned up to it. I collared someone in a park and they flat out denied it, even though she was the only person with a dog, and three older kids had pointed and gone ''errrrr mum, that dogs just poooooooed''

i said, scuze me, but your dogs just done a poo.... and she said 'no it didnt...'
There really was no point pushing it, you know when you are up against a moron.

There was a letter in my local paper on Thursday about this subject. I'll summarise.

Lady spotted woman letting her dog poo around neighbourhood when out with toddler in buggy. Lady asked nicely and woman did nothing. Lady rang police. Police wrote to woman. Still nothing. Lady complained to Police again and was told to get some evidence of this woman, take some photos and we may be able to do something. Lady took some photos. Woman called police to complain she was being stalked and some stranger was taking photos of her child in buggy. Police had to go and warn lady. Womans dog is still leaving muck everywhere.

I salute you brave people who dropped the poo back onto the owners property. I would love to do that but I haven't the nerve!

We had a similar problem with next doors cat, hubby picked up all the poo and knocked next door, offering carrier bag with the words "I think this is yours"! Profuse apologies received and some stuff given to us later in day to deter cat from returning.

Do you keep the grass short in your field entrance OP? This may deter some dogs, mine like to be a bit "hidden" before they "go". I sport a very unfetching bum bag when i walk my dogs so that i always have a ready supply of poo bags. My husbands dog could poo for England!

I'm sorry but I can't approve....two wrongs not making a right and all that, but totally PMSL! :D:D:D

There's been some letters in my local paper about horses being ridden on the road.... and the same old thing has reared its head again.... some idiot suggesting horse riders should pick their horse poo up off the road, the same as dog owners.

So, what do we do?

Carry ***** panniers and a fold-up shovel?
Drag a poo trailer round after us?
Or hire 'a little man/woman' to trot along behind with the mucking out gear?
Or the 'horse nappy'?! Can you imagine going off road with your horse wearing that? And it all flinging out the sides! Yum!!

people never pick up their dog poo on the roads or in fields around here, and yet i distinctly remember once being tutted at by someone when my horse did a poo on the road. horse poo is harmless, and dog poo is nasty. plus, if i had to pick up my horse's poo off the road i'd have to get off about 5 times during a hack (he's a tb living out and stuffing himself full of grass...) and end up having an accident trying to clamber back on with tractors whizzing up and down every 2 minutes.

i could understand having to lift horse poo if it was in the town, and my lass decided to poo on the pavement or where people walk. i go back in the car and lift it with a shovel but if im on the road i certainly wouldnt lol
