And now he is like this!! He's been really good at putting himself to bed when he needs it. 😍

Me chew my blanket?? No, never!!!
🐶
😍

This is the blanket that the breeder gave us when we picked him up. She had rubbed it over the mum and other puppies, and it has been in his bed ever since. He doesn't really chew it as such, just wrestles with it and drags it around the place.

I have a question!! Maybe a weird one, but anyway.... carrots - when can I start to feed him things like that? I have only ever fed adult dogs carrots, but I am worried about him choking obviously. I would never leave him unattended whilst eating, but could he have cross cut slices maybe? Or should I wait until he is a bit bigger/older? Thanks in advance. x

If you are going to supervise you could see what he makes of a whole carrot, let him have a munch but take it away before he eats too much as he is still a baby. I would just let him have the equivalent of a piece about the size of a 50p piece for a first go.. not sure how carrots would affect his stomach though as he is a small breed puppy

Yes, I was worried about his tum as well. It's absolutely not a necessity to feed him anything other than his regular food, but carrots and humus are my go to snack and the spaniel usually gets the carrot tops which she loves. I'm in a whatsapp group with the other litter mates owners and one has fed frozen banana in a kong today, which I hadn't even considered - I thought it would be a bit sugary for dogs. I have never been a snacky person myself (crisps, sweets, biscuits. etc.) and don't tend to give many treats to my animals, so feeding a dog a banana is a bit weird to me!! I know the 'banned' list for dogs, just never really give them much other than their 'official' food.

I have a banana every day and mine wait expectantly for a piece, it used to just be the one terrier that liked it but now the lurcher has a bit as well my other terrier has decided she needs some. I don’t mind as I don’t really like the end so it’s better than throwing it in the bin.. mine do get a piece of raw carrot if I’m cooking it for myself but otherwise they don’t get treats apart from a small gravy bone at bedtime and tiny treats on our walk just to make sure recall is 100%

I spent 50+ years of my life eating at least a couple of bananas a day, until lockdown. When the supply of bananas was restricted, and they started to come from other places, they just didn't taste the same. I didn't get covid till 2022, so it wasn't that - I tested regularly. I have travelled to banana/plantain growing countries many times and I know there are numerous varieties, and they all taste quite different. And now I just don't buy them any more! Anyway, I digress..... yes I was thinking more of carrot tops/dog safe vegetable peelings and the like to nibble on as they would go to waste, rather than treating as such. We will work it out no doubt. x

My lot get a piece of banana each from my cereal bowl topping and carrot peelings go on the lawn. I’d try some little bits of carrot. They get Wainwright’s tray in their kongs, plus kibble, carrot chunks, peanut butter. I honestly think they’re more interested in stealing the empty kongs afterwards.

Thank you, I will try various bits with him. :)

He is gorgeous. Love the name Kip too!

I always think naming an animal (or baby for that matter) is such a hard thing. His name was inspired by one of my current favourite music artists, but he wasn't named after him if that makes sense. I did have a few names in mind, but nothing else ever sat right. We saw aforementioned artist live the same week Kip was born, so to me it's a lovely connection.

Another National Trust property ticked off for Kip, although I think it’s safe to say he really wants to be on the ground now and not in the sling!! Just two weeks to go little chap. 🐶

Eight weeks in, and it's safe to say that this little chap is the happiest dog in the world!! He has been clean at night pretty much all the time, and consistently clean for the past four weeks, and during the day too. Does wees on command, and we have sorted the poo routine as well. That was our only issue early on. I got up at 5 to take him out to toilet, and he would do a little poo, but then did another unexpected one an hour or so later once I thought the coast a clear. Literally can't remember the last time we had an accident indoors. He loves everyone he meets, but I have managed to train 'down' into him, so he doesn't jump up to greet people, but then loves all the attention he receives. I am still looking forward to not having to set the alarm every single day, but the joy he has brought has definitely been worth it. We have been to horse trials with a friend and her dog, to Salisbury to meet my aunt, sits on our trainer's lap while I have a lesson, loves going in the lorry, has experienced our lovely housesitters while we went away for a couple of nights to visit family, enjoyed several trips to National Trust property, and is generally kept rather busy. Not sure why none of my previous photos are showing in this thread, but here is a recent one. x
