As title, sight unseen suspect I have taken leave of my senses. I have also brought (last week) DMSO on e-bay. Slightly concerned (by the former) as being delivered tomorrow and am not sure what to expect.....seemed like SUCH a good idea at the time. Looking to hear from anyone else as daft.

I really, really hope you are not disappointed. Personally I would not buy something I had not seen. Not sure what DMSO means ?

Something I would do... how exciting (and equally terrifying) !! and as for DMSO... get some super strong gloves for application, who knows what sort of facial/body hair you might start sprouting!!

i like the feeling of the unknown but to buy a horse unseen and pay with paypal is taking it to the extreme for me!
hope it turns out ok for you though.

LOL, you are all right did wonder about the DMSO and why my voice had deepened. It was vetted (not by me) and failed on flexion. Sold very cheap. Is a mare so will breed in the spring but comes shod with tack. Will be fine in 2 years after foal if there is nothing else......

Well done you, welcome to the 21st century...it's about time the horsey industry got dragged kicking and screaming to the age of buying horses without cash or cheques!!!

Must admit I don't think I would have been brave enough to have bought a horse without seeing him first but each to their own and I hope it works out for you.

I love the fact you can now pay for things both online and in saddlers with cards and is much safer than carrying bundles of cash around with you or having the hassle of waiting for a cheque to clear.

You can pay for everything by card at my yard which is so much easier than having to worry about getting the cash out to pay for your hay bill, wormers, lessons and even when they have horses for sale.

Even our farrier has switched on to accepting cards as payment.
PayPal is a great way of banking online and is one of the safest ways to shop or transfer money. I've bought everything from jodhpurs from a small family run business to buying a brand new horse trailer from a main dealer!!!

Erm! "We" as a whole probably haven't become more trusting. You on the other hand seem to be making up for the rest of us :p

As above!

It was vetted (not by me) and failed on flexion. Sold very cheap. Is a mare so will breed in the spring but comes shod with tack. Will be fine in 2 years after foal if there is nothing else......

Was it by any chance a recent vetting by the sellers?
I do hope this brings you smiles, and not copious tears.
Please tell me it was a private seller, and not a "rescue" site.

Well, i have bought horses through auctions so probably equally as crazy as buying somewhat blind. I wont worry too much, I imagine she was a bargain??

I've never had mine vetted and all have been bought unseen...not had a bad one yet, quite the opposite in fact. :) But agreed is risky, but sometimes the bigger risk you take can be worth it!

Good luck.

I think you have more safe guards buying through Paypal than paying with cash or cheque. Keep the advert and if it is not discribed open a dispute with Paypal, there is a chance your money will be refunded.

I am concerned you are already planning on breeding from an unknown, lame mare. Surely there are enough unwanted animals without indiscriminate breeding adding to the numbers? As for the DMSO I'd not put it anywhere near a horse, it may be genuine or it may be something lethal.

So you have bought an un-seen mare thats failed a vetting (on flexion tests) from ebay and you plan to breed from it......

What is the mares breeding and why did she fail on the flexion tests? Are you breeding for yourself or to sell? I am assuming you have bred before.

The mind boggles really, buying a horse from ebay (i had hoped this was a joke)

And then buying DMSO on ebay......

Well, I think you are very brave and hope your mare is just what you wanted. Have you got any pics we can see? What is she? Where did you get her from?
I know of a breeder/dealer in Ireland who regularly sells horses that have not been seen by the buyers. But I believe she is happy to swap it if it turns out not to be suitable. She has many happy clients, apparently. Not sure if she takes Paypal or not though...

Paypal and Ebay are two different things. They are only linked as Paypal is a safe way of paying for goods online. Just because you use paypal it doesn't mean you have used Ebay.
The OP didn't mention Ebay she said she paid via Paypal...not the same thing.

She may not have bought through ebay but ebay and PayPal are not two different things. PayPal is owned by ebay.
