On Thursday, and without my approval, PF was moved from her box with her perfectly acceptable (if not imacculate) bed into one with a crappy (literally!) bed. This was because her stable was all of 4 mtrs further away and evidently too far for lazy-arsed groom to walk. I grumbled loudly but was reassured shavings would be arriving forthwith and PF would have sparkly new bed...
Arrive at yard this morning, and PF is still upto her arse in another horse's poo. I get rather shirty with groom and insist she get put back in her former stable. He says he'll move her, but tells me I shouldn't get cross.
"Um, actually, I'll get as cross as I like when my horse is standing upto her arse in [****], especially as YO's horses clearly have new bedding"
He then gets cheeky and says "do you think you'll get a good bed at your next yard?" (I've told him I'm leaving at the end of the month) and I replied "Well, for a start they're not nearly as much as you are and do you really think I'll let them get away with it???"
I take PF out to her little pen and groom arsily asks if I'll be back to bring her in. Ummmm hellllllllllllllllloooooooooooooo?? This yard is outrageously expensive and the little runt (cos he is!) is giving me grief about a task that takes less time than actually mucking her out (not that he does that either)??
I say I WILL be there to bring her back in, but get to yard at 6pm to find she's been brought in, all horses are eating and everything is locked up.
If I get so much as an arsey look tomorrow I'll suggest to the little turd that he speak to YO about it... and I'll mention that he's not watered or raked the school since YO left for Buenos Aires last weekend.
God I'm sooooo p:ssed off. For a change.

I would be PISSED off too!

You are paying top dollar there from what I gather and deserve top notch quality care!

I think they must just not care because they know you are moving.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

You may as well be at old yard paying half and dealing with the crap there!

I would be furious if I were paying for a service and my horse was in anothers shiat!

I would be beside myself worrying how they were treating my horse, tbh. Words fail .................
I am glad you are moving. I cannot believe you (and PF) are getting such shallow treatment at a place that is supposed to be top notch, and charges accordingly. It's just unbelievable.

I wouldn't have bothered waiting for the groom to move your horse back into the stable, I'd have put his back in myself. As for the actions of the groom, you need to remind him that's what he is....the bloody groom & he's paid to look after your horse regardless of any ill feeling there may be betwen both of you. He isn't the YO & he's to do his bloody job that you are actually paying for. I would certainl;y make up a list of jobs the idle Ba***rd hasn't done while the YO is away & present it to the YO on his return. Some of the jobs not done will not just affect you & your horse but any others that are there on livery

Dont disagree that YO should be informed but I would wait till the day you are leaving or after! This groom feels like he would take it out on PF when you are not there.

Well exactly! They 'pride' themselves on doing absolutely everything for you and when YO is around (he's been away this week) he runs a much tighter ship than the head groom.

Well, today's strategy (if I get an ounce of grief) is to ask what YO's reputation will be if I tell people I'm leaving because my horse is left outside overnight, or that she's stood in 3ft of crap when YO's horses have new bedding, or that the school isn't raked and watered daily (another thing YO prides himself on)

Exactly!! I never ONCE had a problem with PF's bed or feed or anything there (ETS: except for when the food ran out!) ; main issue was the other liveries and the school, which is pretty crappy, but HONESTLY...at HALF price!

Furious is right! AND I've told the other liveries that THEIR horses are stood in shiat too so they can raise merry hell too!

I know!! I think I'll play on the 'reputation' the YO prides himself on when I see YM/Head Groom today. The YO is a knob, but he does run a tight ship... when he's away though, the YM/Head Groom gets a bit big-headed and very, very slack!
I'm going to threaten to tell my famous SJ uncle in Buenos Aires...

Oh I have missed that you are on the move again. I'm not surprised though !!
Where are you going ??

I'm going to the Former Instructor's yard- don't know if you saw the website I made for him.
Old Yard has no free boxes so can't go back there. I might if one becomes available in the future as it's so much closer to home and of course Antifaz is still there.

I would've done except he SWORE shavings were arriving that day... and then the next day... and then on Sat I just lost my rag when I saw that SOME horses (not the PAYING liveries) had shaving.

I was going to suggest the groom take his complaints up with the YO (ie: that I don't bring my own horse in) and then I'll take MINE up with him... the dry/knobbly school, the sh:tty beds, the refusal to bring horse in... the horse not tacked up for me when I arrive (this I don't actually mind, but the YO is a bit fussy about it!) etc, etc...
I went to a barbecue yesterday and talked about this with the other liveries and also the farrier who agrees the beds are a disgrace so with any luck they'll create a fuss too.

Only 12 days to go... I think the threat of speaking to YO will work for the time being and then if he asks why I'm leaving (which I expect he will)... I'll tell him...

Like you I have learned that expensive and posh means bugger all. What yards say they do and what they actually do are often very different. I have left several expensive places as complaining has just resulted in me being labelled a difficult livery and also lots of people in the industry will unfortunately take it out on our horses when we are not there.

I don't have the best facilities on the yard I am on (returned here 3 times from posh places), but I'm here to stay because I trust the YM to take good care of my mare and to ensure that her staff do to. Flora is happy and healthy so I am happy.

Good luck to you with the move

You're right, of course. Someone I know who's been at this yard since it came into new management recommended it very highly but has to admit that things have gone dramatically downhill; it's not just the beds that have gone to pot, but I have it on very good authority that feed merchants aren't being paid and someone else has told me that their horse has lost weight.
I don't know how long next yard will last, but with any luck I'll be able to get a stable (eventually!) on the old yard... I guess I'll just have to learn to live with the horrible liveries
