Having been on the horsey side of the forum for a while, as of yesterday evening I can now pop over to All about dogs and actually get involved!

I am now the owner of a beautiful West highland terrer bitch. She is the second dog I have owned as I had a golden cocker when I was 5 and he died last summer aged 16...so it had been a life with a dog and after a break decided now was the time to get another.

She is absolutely gorgeous, the last of her litter to be picked and fully KC reg and everything. I have read, re-read and read again my puppy guide, she has her own room with a puppy cage and bed (and a puppy loo made of paper lol!)

We are going to get her a nice little collar and the usual puppy kit.

She slept beautifully on her own last night and has taken a real liking to my white socks!

I cannot wait to get home from work today lol! Lucky OH if working from home today...im not jealous...honest :)

Any hints and tips for a refresher in puppy training for reference will be greatly appreciated!

Coco and hobnobs for reading! :)

Welcome, Cayla here has an excellent puppy guide.

What I would say is to try not to compare your new pup to your old dog, it's easy to do but remember they are all different and have their own unique qualities, just because X did something, doesn't mean you won't have to teach Y :)

The best thing is to have a routine and to teach the pup to look at you and focus on you and pay attention, through food or praise or whatever and a word like 'watch', then training everything else will be so much easier.

Thanks! Ill struggle to compare her to him she is so different its like a new canvas of puppy-dom lol :)

Training is definately something i look forward to as we have the time (and patience) to get her started right from scratch.

Oh will have a look for some of those thank you! She is called Suzie her registered name is Faithful Abby.

Will get some pic on asap!
