Yesterday, I went to a local riding club's HT. My daughter, who is slowly learning to ride a bit more seriously went along to help her friend who was competing. Now the mother of my daughters friend is, how can I say, "full-on" - her heart is in the right place though & too me that matters a lot, as she lets our daughter ride one of her daughters other ponies who is 26 & safe as houses. My wife also used to ride with the mother all those years ago when butter was tuppence-a-pound etc.

So I pull up on to the show ground with my son at about midday just to see how they were all getting along. The mother comes flying over to me & says "D you’ll ride my Freddie, won't you?" (Said in such away that No was not the option to use as a reply!) So I said Ok

.

They take 1 pony back to their yard, bring back the 14-2 that I have seen jump but have never ridden

, enter me for the senior class (bugger, I could get away with getting in the junior class!) I suppose aged 44 but options were some what limited.

So, I had my hat, breeches & gloves in my car, borrowed the mad woman's back protector, tack up, borrow stirrups from someone else I knew that actually took my wide feet, mounted , warmed up & went round my first HT clear.

End result, 12 in class, came 6th. Orange rosette.

Just a bit chuffed to be honest. Can't say it was a "professional" round as I haven't competed for 11 years or so & I even when I competed it was only over SJ's.

Hey ho. ache like billy-o today but as members of our area BSJA junior academy were present & lingering by fences like vultures for me to depart & I did not let them have the satisfaction I feel I might have got some more good kudos with them now.

Indulgence over - Thanks for reading.
