Ok so i have not ridden now for just over a year and i have not owned my own horse for 5 years. I have no horsey friends. I cant afford lessons due to saving for a wedding, plus ive always been more into horse care than riding. I really feel like i am missing something in my life. I would love nothing more thank to spend a morning mucking out, cleaning tack and prehaps having a pootle down a country lane. I cant loan because i have not got the finances and my riding wouldnt be good enough as it been over a year since i have done any hacking and 2years since i have schooled (i have ridden for over 20years and did use to be quite good). What i can offer is time, knowledge and care. I live in Wilmslow cheshire so surrounded by liveries but how do i find out anyone would like some help ? Would somone want me do you think?

...and when you've finished in Devon if you could pop to North Wales and help with our 8 would be much appreciated! :p

Or south Wales!...
Seriously I think you would be a godsend to someone. Post some ads in your local tack shops or on the websites of your local riding clubs .., and dust off your boots!
Good luck!

You sound just the person i will be looking for next spring!! am in shropshire so probably too far for you :( good luck in the search though :)

I wish you lived near me! I am sure there will be someone out where you live who would love your help. I know what you mean that something is missing. Horses are in our blood. Life isn't the same without them. Good luck with your search. :)

if i was near you and you came to my yard asking about helping out i'd jump at the chance, i would love to have an odd day off without worrying about my horses being done properly, yes money would be good but if you care for the horses like i do then it will be more important to me.

just go and ask at the yard, they can only say no.

Have you had a look on here? I was in a similar situation to you until I found my lovely Clydesdale share 15mths ago :D

Have you heard of Bank Farm in Poynton? they do hour hacks for about £13 off the top of my head - cheap and cheerful, don't expect PSG quality horses ;)

I'm not far from you and would love to meet up - but never even find time to see my friends (work/pony/children!)!!! .... I shall certainly keep my ear to the ground for you though

xx

PS - Bank farm do RDA and welcome helpers and so does New Barn livery near Chelford x
PPS - get yourself over to Chelford farm supplies they have lots of share ads in the shop as do 'Wilsons Saddlery' in Prestbury. :)

Please can I speak to your other half so you can honeymoon in Suffolk? Then you will fall in love with my two and have to move to Suffolk! What I would do to find someone like yourself local to give me a hand occassionally or as frequently as you wanted. I do not want to take money but would love a responsible, intelligent person who loves horses to help me once in a while. Chance to ride etc and on a lovely farm setting.... Suffolk sounding appealing yet?!!!

Or move to Gloucestershire - would love someone like you to help with my lad as you described.

Get advertising - there's definitely a market for you, and get chatting to anyone and everyone horsey, word of mouth is the ideal way to find a good set up. Good luck!!

How about volunteering with a local RDA group, a rescue centre or an urban farm?
I started helping out with a local RDA group over 20 yrs ago (well over), made friends who I am still close to, learned a lot about horses that I wouldn't have done otherwise and even added skills to my CV. I can recommend it.

Definately post a little ad at local tack shops and livery yards - you might well be suprised people are always looking for someone we have several on our yard who don't pay but do one or two days a week - infact one girl does two different horses so has four days a week!

You will be in demand :)

I would also recomend finding a local RDA group, they are always in need of helpers and are usually very welcoming, with people involved with other horsey groups which they may well want helpers for! :)

Wow its great to find out i might be usefull to someone!! I have done some NH leading and loading courses in the past and still have some equipment so at least i have that to offer too. I think what has worried me is that i havnt ridden for so long, i know i can be a decent rider again but its not that important to me - i much prefer the caring and handling side of things and just being 'horsey'!!

I have been looking for a year for a rider to come and ride for free, all I want in payment is for them to pick a barrow of poo up when they ride.

Still not had any luck, they just want horse brushed, tacked up, and ready to ride, I have even had to pick them up and drop off afterwards, i must be mad.

Real pity you are not in kent!

I am looking for someone to spend time with my chap 3 x a week just grooming, hanging out, hand grazing, general tickles and snuggling and making him feel special.

For this onerous task I am happy to pay for two private hour long riding lessons with the chief instructor a month on one of the school horses.

If anyone in the Faversham Kent area knows someone who would be interested (important they are consistent, reliable and in it for the love of the horse not just the lessons!) then please PM me.
