I really can't believe I didn't notice that my dog is missing a tooth! It appears to have never been there in the first place. So that is the end to our showing career oh well time to concentrate on the fun stuff !
You could pop her in for a dental x-ray just in case it has been broken or pulled? Wasn't it you who was doing bitework?
Have you told the breeder? They might need to check siblings. I know it's not the worst fault in the world on the surface, but if it is hereditary it can be one tooth in one generation, two teeth in the next, etc etc etc so the breeder might like to know.
Well cut a long story short I 'rescued' her from my partners stupid parents who bought 2 puppies from a litter off a reputable breeder. It is indeed me who is doing bite work.
I took her to her first show on Sunday and the judge pointed out the tooth. Having thought back it dawned on me that when she was tiny I noticed there was one missing and just put it down to teething.
I met the breeder for the first time on Sunday and the first thing they did was look in her mouth and they said nothing and never spoke to me again so I don't think she ever had the tooth. Obviously this means I would never dream of breeding her and I will be taking her for an x-ray to confirm. I also believe the breeder new this all along and I am highly embarassed I didn't think more of it! I was never too bothered about showing it was just something to get her out and about but it is still gutting
Ah right, was going to say she might have knocked it out but it looked like a soft pillow you were using and it sounds like the breeder may have known all along
As you say a bit disappointing but that's the problem with dogs, I've yet to meet a perfect one, all the people I know at one time have had THE ONE! turn out to have a missing tooth or floppy ears or a curly tail or some other kind of minor fault, that's life. Hope you have a lot of fun with all the other stuff x
It is a shame but she no dog with a full set of teeth that could replace her! I am just disappointed with the breeder! They are accredited and should have never sold 2 puppies to the people in the first place. All they have done is lie and be deceitful since I have had any dealings with them. I don't know how they get away with it. I only use a soft pillow and I am so careful with her! I do think it was never there! But such is life and I definately will have fun with the rest of the stuff! Won't be long till its Bh time!
Thats disappointing, but in fairness to the breeder I have to admit I check the bite on pups I sell at 8 weeks but not the whole mouth. I do agree though that they should never had sold 2 siblings to the same person. If the are ABs and you have had other problems you really should let the KC know, they are supposed to check on things like this.
I once had a cracking bitch with 2 missing teeth, nowadays it probably wouldn't have been worth entering her in a show, but back in the 70s she had a reasonable show career thanks to a very skilled pro handler! Had she been more English type I would probably have made her up.
Working her will be more rewarding than showing anyway, imho, so enjoy her.
