I can't believe that I can't find anyone who is experienced and competent at riding that wants to ride my horse...for free!!! Is anyone else finding this? I just think it is a bit bizarre! Is it just me?!

If you lived nearer I'd love too, and i've been told that i'm competent. We're out there, just tricky to find I guess, most people that ride half decently want to charge to ride other people's horses. Hopefully you find the right person soon!

I've said that she can be lively which she can but nothing horrible, the worst thing she does is do a mini buck when she gets super super excited..which is hardly ever. She just needs a good, firm rider so she knows she cant get away with anything! So shes not a novice ride, but you also dont need to be super experienced just know what you're doing. Ahhh thats good, I am glad you are out there...somewhere!

might be worth amending the wording slightly so that there's less information on there.

That way fewer people rule themselves out and you can screen people over the phone based on what experience etc they've had.

I find it bizarre that people don't want to ride my horse too and that's just with me offering as a friend - not in return for a ride on theirs, or to get them to muck out, etc. I have asked about four people in the last month and nobody's took me up on my offer. Its not that I don't like riding him - I do, I compete every week end and he is very responsive and nice to ride.

Why oh why??

And I find it odd that I can't find someone who wants a little help with mucking out etc. I can't ride atm but can lunge if wanted. I just want to be with horses again!

I've pretty much given up on asking people to ride, its too much trouble. Two of mine are easy, responsive rides and in return for free riding, no jobs, all I ask is for reliability. Never happens, I end up spending time arranging to ride with them at their convenience and then often they don't come because they're tired/poorly/cold/cats birthday...
Ah well, I currently have three in work and I'm getting very fit. And tired/poorly/cold..cat celebrated birthday on her own.:D

I also have this prob, replied to loads of ad where people were looking for riders and they either dont reply or just dont blinking well turn up, does my head in.
I have a few young horses, that just need another bum on their backs rather than me, dont want anywork done in return unless people want to.
It is driving me mad

Where abouts are you all based as i am an experienced rider looking for something to get me back into the saddle after having a few years off as I want to buy my own again next year. I promise i'm reliable too!!:D

I can't believe you can't find anyone!!

I know! When I was 19 someone gave me the opportunity of riding for free and now I am in the same position I thought it would be nice to offer that chance back to someone! I have advertised online, in local shops and in horse shops! I've had a couple of people out but its so hard finding someone who can actually ride!

ahh!!

your having trouble finding someone to ride, im having trouble finding something to ride!

Id say im experienced with a lot of good instructors/ trainers behind me, but Edinburgh isnt the most horsey place in the world!

its hard sometimes :(

As a rider recently looking at a loan horse, I found it annoying to turn up and find a crippled horse who hadn't been ridden for the last 3 months and an owner who by their own admission was prone to crazy outbursts.

After I had declined the offer I logged on to the forum (not this one) to find a bitchy post about timewasters and joy riders. If only

When I was a kid, my parents couldnt afford a pony of my own....so all I did was ride other peoples....I used to have 3 on the go at one point, and I did the mucking out and everything as well. People just don't seem as dedicated any more.....or is it simply that I was mad?

CuriousYellow, you're not mad in my opinion, would love to do that. I'm mad in that i've paid to have horses on part loan in the past that are nut jobs and i'm essentially a skivvy and crash test dummy :/ Out of 4 loans, only one has been a 'normal' horse who was a fun ride, and sadly he's moved away now :(

I don't think you're mad - I used to work my rear end off at the local yard in exchange for lessons, and not only did I have a blast I learned so much more than just turning up for a riding lesson periodically.

Hahaha! Brilliant....and so true too!!! X

I am in herts, and have a couple of horses that all i want is an experienced rider to put bum on horse and do what i am doing but so they get used to different riders, i also have a few very well schooled riders that they could have some fun competing on as well in return if they wanted to.
BUt no either people dont turn up or do and are so inexperienced that you would not feel safe letting them ride, also had one turn up that was terrified to touch a horse
