Hes been lame on left fore for a few weeks. Vet thinks its OCD in shoulder. Xrays tomorrow.

I can't lose another one. What the hell is OCD what does it mean what happens? I can't lose another one.
 
X-rays and surgery tomorrow if found whilst he's under. Not faffing with any box rest balloney, he'll have surgery if found.

Vet just told me its totally freak-no proof why it happens. So why me?! Why us. It's not fair.

Please keep fingers crossed we're all over reacting and it's just a sprain :(
 
Why would you want to rush him into surgery? Obviously if your vet advises that as the very best option then so be it.

But it must surely be worth trying limited exercise for a few weeks to see if it resolves without putting your dog through the trauma of surgery? In some cases this is all that is necessary.
 
Vet says in dogs of his size surgery basically only successful option- he is HUGE. and from my point of view id rather he didn't go under anaesthetic twice, so they might as well do it whilst hes already under.

Try a second vet opinion.
He will have to be on box rest post op so why not give a a try & see if the condition resolves itself?

Just spoken to his breeder. By pure fluke got the ortho vet today who she has total faith in. So, onwards to tomorrow and we'll see what happens.
 
Clearly I'm no expert CC but from googling it seems to suggest they can be linked/can mask each other/can happen to similar dogs, but are two separate conditions.

Googling also suggests that prognosis for OCD afte surgery is 90%-95% completely back to normal, so feeling calmer now.

Don't be too disheartened until you've actually got a diagnosis.

We went through similar with our GSD x. She was lame for several weeks and the vets thought at first was a strain so treated with anti inflammatories and rest. Lameness still there. They said unlikely to be cancerous growth due to her age (she was 5 at the time) but said they needed to take some x-rays to see what was going on.

I can't recall whether she did actually have x-rays but we contacted a McTimoney physio who treats our horses and has previously treated our older dog with a sore back. He came to see her and actually diagnosed an injury to her back - low down near the pelvis and, as she was compensating for this it showed as lameness in the front. After one treatment (and a bit of yelping on her part!), within two days she was sound and has not been lame since. That was 2 years ago.

So, what i am saying is, don't automatically think the worse - there can be many causes of lameness.
 
Thanks :) we seem to have landed on our feet with the vet who will do the xrays (and surgery if nec) as he appears to be the leading bloke in the area (gets all the referrals etc). So I'm feeling a lot calmer now that he will just fix the stinky dog! And he'll have a good idea of what next if it isn't this OCD etc...

Still so raw over Chloe, watch Bracken like a hawk and so gutted he is poorly now. Although once in 10months isn't that bad going for a dog that is like a jack in a box on steroids!
