Been looking for ages now for a 10.2hh first pony for my two children - wanted a gelding (as I have a gelding cob) but gave in on Sat to go and see a mare locally who was fantastic (apart from mild sweet itch). Was seriously considering her but seller texted to say she'd seen how well my children got on with her and decided to keep her! Fair enough but I honestly cannot find ANY other shetlands for sale. Do they just get passed from one family to another or am I looking in the wrong place (usual horse sale websites - H&H etc).

Any pointers gratefully received - am keen to be able to get my two on board before the end of the summer!!

Thank you

My friend has a gelding for sale in the NW area, he is 34", is that too small?
He is registered and is ridden by her children of 3 and 7.

PM me if you want more details.

Plenty of Shetlands about and they are cheap...... Try Thainstone Auction Mart Shetland Sale in October...... Google the mart.

The sensible, correct, sound, genuine childrens ponies are the same as any other breed, sought after, often passed between families locally, oh and expensive and so they should be. If of show quality even more money.

Good luck with your search, I hope you find one.

I put an advert in Scot-ads for one (as companion) for loan and was absolutely inundated with calls. Try your local horsey paper. I ended up with 2 cracking games ponies which unfortunately I couldn't fence in as they were houdinis and they needed such restricted grass it didn't work. Great fun though.

Thank you all so much for your replies, I shall enjoy investigating all your suggestions!!

Quirky - thanks for thinkig of me but having tried the 10.2hh on sat I now know that's the size we need - defnitely nothing smaller...

Thanks again all
