Well i have been to the doctors about my back again.... and i am well and truly
frown.gif
.... the doctor said that i cannot ride for 2-3months, and i have to have physio therapy too .... so could be longer depending on what the physio therapist says! .... means my horses are only going to get ridden like twice a week my sharer will ride ellie about twice to three times a week sometimes twice .... i do not know what to do with them cuz they are going to be a bit wasted .... my sharer cannot do any more days so i didnt know whether to get someone else to ride her while i cannot :/ or do i just stay satisfied with not having her ridden very often and loosing her fitness, and getting fat

.... anyone got any ideas

thanks in advance!!

Yeah i will be putting her in the pessoa a lot i think!! .... i am not really keen on any up my yard doing stuff with her to be all that honest.... she doesnt like other people lunging her!! wont go forwards and well keep turning in and rearing when you do so that wont be a idea hehe ....

I broke my hip last aug and couldn't ride lucy for 4 months. (should have been longer) I had noone else to ride her so she had to have the time off i kept her on restricted grazing. The holiday did her some good i think. I was worried about her having all that time off as she is 19 and is also laminitic but she was fine.

What did you do to yourself? I'm in a similar situation with my back (having broken it) and nearly 4 months on still not riding. I gave the horses a bit of a holiday to start with and managed to get a friend to ride them a few times a week and I lunge them on the other days and then they also get a couple of days off as opposed to only one as they used to.

The holiday can do them the world of good.

Know how you feel - I have been out of action since April. Went hospital on Mon hoping that I could start walking/riding and I have to wait another 3 months!! Never thought a broken leg could be so painful
Luckily I have youngsters/one retired (and very understanding OH/sister)
Get well soon - the horses will be fine x

i fell off about 14months ago and have been having problems with my back ever since! :/ i am only 17 and well now its rather painful to walk etc .... i am having the physio and then they might be carrying out the xrays and that
frown.gif
.... i have been given like inflammortories but they havent done anything .... i have been chickening out on going to the docters!! .... wasnt the best of ideas .... now i have made it worse
frown.gif
.... and for the like last 6months i have really been suffering after riding, when i run and doing any sport that i do .... dont know exactly what i have done yet

and its awful considering i like to get on with it .... but like you said the time off might actually be good ....

Oh dear, that doesnt sound good. Did you see anyone at the time of the accident? You may well have just damaged the muscles but it's always good to know. Going to the physio is definitely a good idea though and make sure that you do all the exercises! If I was you I would push the x-rays if you can, although they may not be keen after that length of time since you did it.

Have you ever had a chiropractor look at it? You may well have shunted something out of place which trust me can cause all sorts of back pain. It can be simple to put back in place, but because it's been a while since your accident it may well take some time to get the muscles used to the new position they need to be in.

Good luck with it!

yup i went to the doctors at the time and he said it was fine but that was a docter i didnt like in the surgery and well he didnt do anything about it :/ .... no i havent i think i will wait to see the physio therapist then will hopefully get some sort of diagnosis to it!! ....

And thankyou!! .... hope your back gets better to

I feel all of your pain after many back pains and many many months of physio they still dont know what is truely wrong with my back!
i had to take over a year out and still have to take it easy now i ride when i can but find my horse strong on the lunge so pulls my back making it worse but i promise if you take the time out as they have suggested you will feel much better helped me but take it easy i no all i want to do is go zooming over the hills i have around me but cant be done yet got to build it up! everything will be ok!

Thanks all i need is reassurance at the moment .... i just want to burst into tears .... i just hope that the physio will work and that i dont have to give up the horses
frown.gif
.... i know what dad will say they are being wasted so whats the point in keeping the pair of them .... i am sure it will work out eventually "hopefully"

Sorry to hear your bad news. Don't despair...I had a really bad fall from my homebred 4 yo many light years ago (and I was quite ancient then!). I fractured my spine in 2 places and the head of femur in 7 places! The youngster went to livery and the mare was ridden by a friend 3 times a week in our manege.

I was back in the saddle after 8 months (bear in mind my great age) but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be as I spent so much time on physio exercises in order that I could get riding again!

Don't give up - you are young and it will all come right for you much sooner than you will ever imagine. Keep soldiering on!!

I was not able to ride for 18 months after a car accident and was so worried that Ralph would not cope. My trainer Mark rode for me twice a week and my friend hacked out when she was able.

As soon as I was back on my feet and able to do things around the yard, I lunged or long reigned on the days he was not being ridden.

I got the all clear to ride last October and started back gradually, once a week and all the above etc.....

We had our first dressage comp two weeks ago and despite a rusty right leg (mine) we managed a decent 61.8% and a very happy mum.

So, it can be done. Never underestimate what you can do from the ground. I was worried but, it has come right now and we've got our next comp on Sunday
