that I would NOT want to jump 1 metre as a preparation for BE90 eventing....

I suppose this is the thing about being on a pro yard - today I was in the school doing flatwork, Jensen was being very good so I thought I would pop a couple of jumps at the end as he loves jumping. There was a course already set up - a few massive fences, no way I was going near those, and a couple of smaller fences.

So we popped the smaller fences a couple of times... all was good.....as usual I got carried away and dismounted to adjust a couple of the other fences down to 90cm. I wondered why they looked a bit small and assumed I'd made a mistake when changing the height, jumped round them all again a couple of times and finished it there as I was very happy.

I went back down to the school afterwards.....turns out that the "small" fences were actually 1m 10! I suppose compared to the other fences (1m 20/1m 30 ish) they would look reasonable :D

I always found that when grooming regularly for a friend jumping newcomers/fox everything seemed a lot smaller! Well done :D

LOL - this is why people advise jumping 1m showjumping before going 90cm crosscountry - so the 90cm jumps look smaller and you jump with more confidence round the cross country because of it (and therefore give your horse more conidence).
I once took a nervous rider to a XC practice and she was going to jump 'just some of the 70cm ones'. When i went over to pay they said the 70cm course was closed, but i didn't tell her. She followed me over every jump i told her to, and was somewhat surprised when we finished to find that she had done most of the 90cm course.

Of course, now that you're happy jumping 1m10, that means you can go BE100 !

I clearly remember giving the advice to get confident jumping higher because it does help when you compete, you just need to get him more focused on the xc and you will be flying.

Wow well done

Thank you all, you were very right :) :) :) Thank goodness my perspective is changing at last, I was a bit horrified when I started jumping Jensen and I found 80cm daunting - now nothing is going to stop us :D Well, almost nothing..... see this weeks report :o

Well done! The best way to jump is to not know the height. I jumped what i thought was a 50cm straight (yes im a wimpy jumper) to be told actually it was a 60. I really enjoyed it, and did it well, but if you put one up and said it was a 60 i could not again jump it lol

Well done! That's a fantastic way to discover you and your horse have more jumping ooomph already than you thought! Look forward to hearing how the BE100 goes when you're ready.
