...So to make her go in, I put a towel over her eyes, got my neighbours to give her a push from behind, and I held her tail right up and pulled. I also yanked really hard on her mouth to make her step forward. She did go in, yippee!!

Did I do the right thing? My god she went like stink when we got there.

i dont hink you use very nice terminology 'yanked her in' i do sympathise with re a horse not loading, i am STILL struggling with this problem and if i did to my horse what you did to yours shed give me a kick. was there a reason she wouldnt go in? does she normally?

Snowed in, NP! Well, nearly freed but just waiting as my little Ford Fiesta doesnt cope very well.!

Now, back to my completely serious post!

Lol.

An old friend of mine recently couldn't get her 3yo, YES 3YO!!!! To load in to the trailer. They got a broom and shoved it up her bottom, bristles and all smacking her with it and ramming it in to her, whilst pulling on her head with lunge ropes behind her and she still wouldn't go in. She was then poked (not gently!!) with the metal stake end to an electric fence post. They then decided it would be a great idea to get a leaf blower, turn it on behind her and then shove it up her bottom too.. It wouldn't surprise me one little bit if she never loaded again! Was horrified when I heard about it :(

I just think they're lucky I wasn't there, if I was they would have known about it..

Some things people think is ok and acceptable these days are horrendous aren't they :(

Well you ALMOST did the right thing..you might have been better with the electric cattle prod that I use when a certain pony won't go in the trailer, but the towel is a great idea as he always bangs his head on the front of the trailer having rushed in...I shall try that next time:)

you need my new patented trailer! its flat pack, you get pony to stand on the base, build up the sides around it and pop a golf umbrella on the top for a roof. You do need to train pony to jump up off all 4 legs on command so you can slip the wheels on but i am working on 'quick inflate' ones so you can just pump em up fast, should your pony be reluctant to jump. i built a prototype out of matchboxes and a used a little pig ornament in place of a pony and it really does work for those difficult to load beasties!
