Cried with joy. :)
as some of you know my lad has reverse pedal bone rotation, started off on box rest with shoes and bute. The vet suggested the barefoot route after x rays and at the time I was very anti, though lack off knowledge but at the time felt I knew enough to think horses needed shoes.
Anyway months off research, ups and downs and today was a mile stone for me.

He walked down the lane without boots and on the way home I asked for trot ( in hand) and it was fab. Really took my breath away and I had tears in my eyes. Iv never ever seen him move like that in shoes and in fact the only time he's ever moved like that was under nerve blocks.
I know we are only at the beginning ( 8 weeks) but even know when his feet touch the ground he has a nice sound to his feet and his digital cushions have opened up! Take it this is good? They use to be slots and I had cotton buds to clean them out but now they are wide open :) does this mean his bulbs will now start to beef up?

I'm on top the world tonight I really am

YAY! Congratulations!!! certainly sounds like you're moving in the right direction! You're bound to have a few blips but keep at it! it's worth it! ;)

Nice to hear of a vet who is reccomending barefoot too :)

And the iceing on the top was ( prob shouldn't say this) the girl who is always slating me and what I'm doing and is the first to say " see iv said he can't go without shoes" when I get a problem was there when I trotted him so I had to say " did u see that trot" her responce was " yep" until the next set back I'm sure ;) but this time " eat your words" and my head couldn't get back into his stable. :)

That's great news, so pleased for you both :) ignore the doubters there are many of them out there and from personal experience I know just how hurtful it can be. I just reassure myself with the fact that my once condemned horse is now sound and in full work and their horse is retired in a field/on constant box rest etc ;)

Really really glad it's going so well, keep us posted, pics would be great too ;) :) x

Pleased for you - I was the other way. My boy was barefoot for 5 years, and then had really bad lammie and had to go back into shoes. After 6 months and his first set of shoes for 5 years he came off the lorry (that I really beleived was taking him to the hospital to be PTS, he trotted down the road with a smile in his ey. I bawled my eyes out

well done TMG I remember your despair . The digital cushions you are talking about is the central sulchus (I think that is what you mean anyway) ie the slit which has now got a lot wider in the back of the frog. Yes it is good it has opened up. You were cleaning them to get rid of fungal infections which would have made him sore on his frogs. Now that will have gone which means he will be more able to land on his heels so yes the better he lands the more he will beef up his heels.
really pleased for you.

Yes the central sulchus, it's opened up really wide and don't need cotton buds anymore to clean it. Iv been using silverfeet just because I get it cheap and works out cheaper than me buying sudocrem from tescos.
