I did it, i changed to wood pellets

After spending approx. £25 pw on bedding for my 4 neds, i decided 3 weeks ago to give wood pellets a go. The old mare is clean all the time, the big baby section D is a messy, wet horse who also moves his bed and no matter how deep i make his bed, most days we have a bare patch of concrete in the middle if his bed. The mare and foal share a stable and is messy due to 8 feet trampling it all night.
So i took out most of the old shavings/cardboard bed and just left in big banks, tipped out the pellets, watered with a watering can and waited for them to activate.
I must admit it took me a few days to really get used to them but now i love them.
They dont really save me time but the beds are dry, comfy and the big lad has not gone through to the floor at all.
Best of all i found a supplier 5 miles away that are so much cheaper that the other suppliers i tried, so now i spend £12per week not £25.
Happy happy me and my neds.
just thought i would share, well done to those who made it all the way to the end. choccy bars all round.

My mums just changed to these as well, as her mare is so messy and she said they are very good, and also cheaper than shavings.

I have changed to these as well. We pay £200 for 100 x 10kg bags to be delivered. I used 14 bags to set up the stable and am now topping up with one bag a week. Brilliant.

we paid £210 for 70 x 15kg bags.

Still not convinced they are the nicest looking bed, and Tom seems to turn his into a bog overnight, but they are more cost effective than shavings

I changed to them and have now changed back to straw - my mare is such a messy wet cowbag she made an absolute bog of them, couldn't stand a dirty wet looking bed any longer, hope you get on with them better than I did.

I changed my super wet boy onto them last year due to the cost of shavings and I really like them. Bed is much cleaner/drier (granted it doesn't look as nice as shavings but who cares) and it saves so much money!

I started using them from August. I have EVA mats and two very wet horses. I have tried straw, shavings and chopped straw before now. Cost is my only priority now.
With other beddings I have had to use a sprinkling only as the whole thing would have to be chucked out the next day. I started doing the same thing with the pellets but have discovered that more is better. I also no longer wet the pellets at all. They are a bit crunchy for the first night but they break down quickly and I find the dryness better.

i have been toying with the idea, but not done it, where did you get the from Tree? just wondering if they place may also be close to me?

Mine worked out at £180 per tonne or £90 per 1/2 tonne. collected but they do deliver also for a small fee.
I must admit the coluor of the bed is not the best ( sort of a beige colour) but the horses are happy and the beds are dry so happy me.

I have been thinking about changing to these to use on my mats. My mare costs a fortune on shavings because she is soo wet and messy, she's back on straw at the minute but I need soomething that soaks the wee up more..... Don't suppose anyone has a picture of their wood pellet bed? I'm just interested to see what it looks like.
