I rode Archie today!

I know I shouldn't have but unless I got on I don't think I would ever have ridden him again.

After six months off with my broken collar bone, operation to plate it, next consultant appointment late October and no riding until possibly next year I have been having more and more negative thoughts about riding.

I love, love, love my boy and got up this morning, heart thumping and thought I have just got to do it.

Went up the yard and got him in and just tacked him up. Got on him and he was his usual laid back self. I rode him up the lane and back and then down the bridleway past his field into the forest. All in all, rode for about 30 minutes and he really looked after me. We poodled along and it was fab - I can't believe I haven't ridden him for over six months.

Popped him back in his field and haven't stopped smiling since.

I am not going to overdo it though but I should imagine a lot of you know what the dreaded thoughts of giving up or never riding again are and I really don't want too many of them.

Naughty naughty, but I think I'd have been the same. Just be very very careful, and don't get caught by your consultant!

(Friend of mine broke arm at the elbow, lots of metal, years ago, and was told not to drive only to find herself stopped at the lights next to her consultant, whom she was to see later that day, he wasn't best pleased with her!

heheh, when I broke my elbow I couldn't just not ride... about 4 weeks in cast and I went to try a new horse xD Only walked & trotted though. And when he arrived 1 week after having the cast off I was straight back to riding! (hasn't done me any harm... I don't think!

As Dubsie said, just don't get caught! xP

Good for you! Take it easy though, eh?

I remember breaking my wrist and hand coming off a pony while cantering. I also seem to remember that, against strict doctor's instructions, plus those of a faffing, nervous mother, not to ride for eight weeks, I was riding round the school with my plaster cast on two weeks later

Oh the joys of being young and resilient.
