Went to do the neds this evening and was poo picking the paddock when I noticed some footprints in the mud - adult and child sort of size. They had climbed over a wall, a ditch and a metal fence and jumped in. There is a notice on the fence asking people not to feed the horses as they are on restricted diets so could become ill. (Sov is just getting over LGL)
There is no sign of apples or carrots but they would have eaten every last scrap, being pigs. I was in the dark putting up an extension to my electric fence in the ditch. It happened between 1/4 to 3 and 6p.m. so tomorrow I am going to hide the car and wait for them. Hope they come back so I can tell the adult how irresponsible he/she is. Heaven forbid the horses could have been spooked and trampled them!!!!!!

Some people really are stupid, they think they're being nice coming to feed the lovely horses a nice carrot etc, but they really don't have a clue, paddocks are fenced off and signs are put up for reasons GRR
xx

Anyway, waited this afternoon and along comes the lady from the cottage overlooking my field, with her little niece. I asked if she had seen anyone with the ponies yesterday and she said she had lifted her niece into the paddock and followed, just to pat them, eek!
So, very politely, I explained what could have happened.

It really does beggar belief! My old boy smelt of apples when I put mine to bed this evening so I'll be putting up a notice tomorrow. Scary to think what could have happened though with them among the horses, especially if they had treats and started them scrapping. (mine do if they think they are missing something) I mean where do you stand insurance wise if a tresspasser was injured?

PLEASE!PLEASE! put up an eletric fence and stand by to see them have a shock, also put a notice up about said fence, just to cover yourself, but put it just off from where they can read it, as they shouldn't be trespassing in the first place. (I know I sound Evil, but I'm not, not really).

What on earth makes people think they can do this?!

At the last yard, people left the path (public footpath through it), and walked about three hundred yards to 'pat the ponies'. Um. Ponies?! My 16.3hh DWB, Friend's !6.1hh TB, plus a couple of big cobs, and a very temperamental mare. I broke the land speed record to get over to them - if they'd brought Polos or apples out they'd have been annihalated(sp!). Brrrr.:eek::eek:

I really don't mind anyone saying hello to my guys and petting them - but not going in the field, and certainly not feeding them!

But a couple of months ago I had a woman screaming across the field to me shouting at the top of her voice - I had not seen her behind another horse - but she had definitely not seen her gelding standing in a pile of old rolled up fencing wire and posts she had left in the field...careless! It had been electric fenced off, but the tape was lying on the ground and the dopey old gelding had pawed at the wire, stuck his hoof and stood there looking pathetic until someone rescued him!.

She was quite snotty about the whole thing though. I'd actually dismounted and left my horse tied up with his hackamore rope to a post and climbed over the dyke to help her horse out. I honestly could not leave it - did what any responsible horse owner would have done.

Our field is next to the cotswold way on one side and a housing estate on the other. No-one respects the horses. Apples, carrots, cabbages, whatever they get fed. No wonder mine is so flippin fat.

I caught a couple a few weeks ago giving them a BOXFUL of apples ('tis the season). One is laminitic. God didn't I run up the hill!!! You shoulda seen me pelt along!!

When I explained they were like "we feel sorry for em".

What???????

"Can I take a photo of you and the horses?" i said "coz if something goes wrong I can prove it's your fault"

"ones got diabetes" I said "and all that sugar will give him a hyper" then... "oh" he said, "is that why the white one kicks the black one?"

"YES" I said and led them all away. Wondering who's been kickin' who...
