Since moving my boy back home about a year ago as the nice little yard I was at had no grass and my boy was loosing too much weight,
I don't have anyone to ride with and don't feel like I want to spend much time with my horses. Also I just wear leggings now (with holes in!)
and I'm not bothered about wearing nice boots or jods or buying nice new things for my horse.
Also I feel my knowledge is lagging and I'm just not making any effort in my schooling etc.
I want to move back to another yard but money is too tight this year as I've got a baby and a youngster to break in.
Does anyone else who has their horses on their own yard or at home feel like this? Do you still make an effort and buy nice horsey gear? :)

i never had nice things to be honest, but i didn't like not having any one to ride with, i have a young horse who needs a sensible friend, and i don't even know any one with a sensible friend! how ever, show jumper i had always been till this one i took him out to some wall trot tests just for a quite warm up see how he coped, we have just kept going back, now compete novice, get to talk to horsey people, and play dress up realise i do have a pony to be proud of, come home and an happy to walk about with string as a belt coz the zip bust who cares no one sees! still wish we had a sensible friend to hack with though!

I've never been one for buying nice horsey gear for myselfand i've never really cared what i look like around horses but i prefer being on a yard for the social aspect of horse ownership. I also think there is a certain amount of peer pressure on a yard in terms of riding/chores which isnt a bad thing for a lazy toad like me! I know that my at home horses tack cleaning kit hasnt seen the light of day for months!! Whereas when i was on a yard i used to do it frequently.
There is however something to be said for rolling out of bed on a saturday morning, feeding them in your pjs then rolling right back into bed afterwards tho!

My family are horsey so have people to ride with, but I did live away from home for 17yrs,I have never been on a yard with other people.
I think it can be good for your horse as long as you do take it to events with other horses so they do not get excited about this.

You will never have a nappy horse and it makes you a confident rider,I am quite a solitary person at times so perhaps it would not suit everyone.
Am on foal watch at moment, have been offered company but like the peace being alone,so you could be asking the wrong person.

I still feel horsey but know what you mean. There is some peer pressure at yards to have the latest rugs and riding gear. At home you tend to focus more on the practicalities like having very robust Wellies and warm clothes. I also miss riding out with other people but luckily my OH rides so it's not too bad. I do sometimes think though that I would be better off financially and would ride more if I was at a good DIY yard. But then they are hard to find and horses are very happy here.

Cld you approach local riders to see if they'd be up for riding out with you? My neighbour & I ride out a couple of times pw & its great for getting me motivated & up & out on time. Also riding clubs provide good horsey support & company..mine does lots of subsided training/events plus some socials too to provide a horsey fix!

Ive been on yards but now have my own place, 2 mins from home with all facilities with nice hacking and in a nice quiet setting i prefer being on my own, but im lucky to have a 3 horse yard down the road from me and hack out with my neighbours and we pop into each others places for a chat, so probably have the best of both worlds
I love the fact i can go down with my jammies on for night checks or to put them out in the morning, tbh i would hate to have to be on a yard again.
