I don't have a receipt of purchase for my pony

I have owned Tont for nearly two years, but I don't have a receipt for him.

I have his passport, with my name under owner, but as he was given to me for Christmas I did not exchange money. I still keep him with the woman who gave him to me, and I know that she would not want him back unless I could no longer care for him.

Do I need a receipt to prove I own him? Is there a diplomatic way to ask him previous owner to sign a receipt?

You could tell her you want to make either a book of memories of your journey with Tont or a framed photo and certificate type of memento and could she sign a receipt for you.
Then find a smart certificate that can be adapted to use as proof of him being gifted to you, it would be a nice thing to do anyway and you could do something similar for her as a Christmas gift.
 
I wouldnt get too worried about it as the passport is under your name. Unless the horse is worth £KKKKKK. But even then, not sure why you suddenly want one, if she is genuine I am sure she wouldnt mind doing one for you. But will she think that you are about to sell although thats up to you anyway?

I suppose for insurance you could say for valuation etc if ever asked what u paid etc etc
If she is as nice as she sounds(giving away horses) am sure she wont mind etc, as its not like a potential purchaser ever asks a seller what they paid for a horse.

Just reassure her that you arent about to sell if she loves the horse etc
 
You can't really have a receipt as such if no money has changed hands. Why not tell her you would like to make it all official for the above mentioned memory book and offer her £1 for him and have a receipt in exchange? That would make more sense.

Just tell her your insurance company have asked for your receipt as you've amended your insurance.

I'd be careful how you tackle her though. If she was kind enough to give you a pony, she might feel offended if you give her the impression you trust her so little that you want proof of ownership, so go steady ;)

I've just been reading a few threads where they said a receipt was the only way to prove ownership, so I was worried in case he was stolen or something.

She can be a bit funny about certain things, so I wanted a way to gain a more solid proof of ownership without offending her. The memory book is a great idea though, thank you :)
 
You either need a letter from her stating that she is gifting you the horse or even better a receipt from her for payment (even if it is £1.00) by you of the horse. A receipt would be the best to avoid any problems in the future.
 
All you need is a piece of paper with her name and address on it, with a description of the pony on it, stating that on such and such date, she passed ownership of the pony (describe him) to you - with your name and address shown.

If she gifted the pony to you , or you paid for him, it's not an unreasonable thing to ask her for.
