I seem to remember that after a recent Badminton win, (in the last few yrs anyway), the winning rider (can't remember who) had a good old gallop after the SJ round, in celebration. There was a lot of disapproval voiced on here. Anyone care to throw the same criticism at some of these Olympic riders?

Sorry for not remembering jockey or date

............But I DO DEFINITELY remember a debate occurring after this.

Who was it then?!!!!!!!!!!
OT; I can't understand why some showjumpers/eventers undo their chinstrap whilst still mounted, after a round. Surely there is still a chance of a mishap?

TBH I think that when you've won an Olympic medal, the adrenaline is rushing through your body like crazy and the crowd is going crazy....all rules and regulations leave your head and joy takes over

Wasn't it someone who threw the reins at the horse for their lap of honour? I'm sure it was in the last year but can't for the life of me remember who...

I was wondering Weezy why someone would post this, is why my first reply was NO!

The horse wasn't hurt, no harm done, leave it alone I say!

No lets stick with this year.
Weezy, was my little'un right, could the gold medal have been lost to an undone chinstrap,on a technicality, and what would have happened if Megan (Jones?) had stolen gold, as it looked at one point as if she might, bearing in mind the violation of the rules on the cross country course some folks were talking about yesterday?
Not being an eventy person myself, and not knowing the ins and outs of the rules, I am just interested.

Dont remember that but I do remember people complaining about someone dropping their reins as soon as they finished their round as it was inconsiderate for the horse.

I don't know eventing rules, but as far as I am aware there is no FEI rules stating that people cannot remove their hat when in the ring and at completion of their round.

I do remember people complaining after the French winner did a very fast lap of honour. The French competitor's lap of honour today was not remotely like the one that was complained about.

Hllo, 'we lot' aren't moaning about anything!
I merely asked someone if they knew if there was a rule about hats, that's all. I'm not going to complain to the BBC about it

Calm down!

I dont have a problem with a lap of honour, however thought one horse looked throughly upset by the lap on honour ears flat back, generally unhappy didnt know why the rider didnt pick up on that. Think it was a french rider

it was nicoholas touzaint at badminton this year and plenty of people had plenty to say about his gallop round the arena after. thats all i am saying on this matter on this occasion because like weezy i cant believe someone has brought the subject up again. pity we cant just focus on the good stuff.....

I was not saying any horse was hurt at Badminton. In fact, I don't believe any harm was done on that occasion or today. But I do think that there are often overly critical posts on here, so I was surprised no-one had mentioned the galloping around the arena after dressage, cross country, SJ (x2 for some).

Do you think, Mickey, that maybe it was because people had learnt from last time not to bring it up again? I'm sure any opinions that were given then are the same now and we don't need another big HHO argument.

This post does not need to become an argument, a debate is what I hoped to raise.
Secondly, I agree that people's opinions about the event at Badminton are likely to be the same now as they were then. I am asking about the Olympics. Why is it so unreasonable to ask whether people had made any comparisons/had any thoughts on this?
And there have been pieces of criticism about riding at the Olympics on here in the last couple of days, so I don't see why asking this question is an issue?

NO. No-one day ANYTHING like NT's hysterical gallop. Everyone, including the winner, behaved perfectly.

Mickey: "galloping around the arena after dressage" eh, when??

There were plenty of riders that had a celebration in the ring after their rounds, and some of them, IMO were galloping or at least really pushing an extended canter.

OK, I'm going to say what I think on this one. At Badminton, what was most concerning was that NT dropped the reins whilst galloping through the finish line, which to some, including myself, felt was a bit unfair to his horse, after all, he had been held together all the way around the course, however, I didn't see anyone do this at the Olympics, yes, there were celebrations but perhaps not quite as soon as aforementioned one.

That's all I have to say.

No but my daughter said shouldn't he have been disqualified for undoing his hat?!

[/ QUOTE ]

No because FEI rules are different with regards to hats. You can undo them in lap of honours etc.

I dont like seeing them gallop round and round afterwards as I think its a shame for an already very tired horse. And I did not like that man (I think he was French?) who instantly dropped his reins and began punching the air etc. his horse didnt look happy and I think it showed disrespect for the horse.

This was my exact point - I wondered if anyone on here had an issue with that.................................hence I raised the post.
