I dont know what to do :'(

I really dont know what to do, i have a 4 year old appaloosa x cob called blue.
I dont feel as though there is any connection between us yet, and ive had him since 16th october 2010, he has improved a little bit when ridden and on the ground, as he used to be extremly bargey , but now he is much better.
But the thing i dont know wether he is going to be right for me as he seems too slow for me when in the menarge, but out on a hack he can be quite hot headed , which i like.
I wanted to do some xc on him aswell.
I dont know wether to sell him which would be really really hard, or to keep on training him up to either go far or not.
Please give me your opinions on what you would do :/!

I recon it takes a year to get to know a horse fully.
And if in the school he is "slow" its probibily because hes a baby and doesn't understand what you are asking of him yet.
Get a good instructor to give you lessons and help improve the schooling. This may help with your bonding.
 
I had a tb ex racer I bought off the track. Very lazy in the school. She just didn't understand what I wanted and she turned out fine. With the help of a good instructor!
 
Surely only you can really know if this horse is the right one? I had two mares before I bought my current gelding, didn't get on with either of them for different reasons although both were lovely horses on the ground.

You can persist and maybe get somewhere or you may just waste time, I took the decision, on the advice of my instructor to move them on and find something I could relate to better, now had the boy 3 years, may not have even been riding now if I'd kept one of the mares, so the advice was good.
 
Took me nearly a year to feel anything towards my horse. I now wouldn't part with her for the world.
She was meant to be a project to sell on and to start with it wouldn't have bothered me if we sold her, she hadn't done anything wrong at all, just didn't connect.
Now she most definatley is not for sale. Love her to bits.
 
I'm quite interested in the replies here too.... only had my new horse, a mare, for 2 weeks, and don't feel any connection at all.... I KNOW it's far too early, but when I read of others here who are so 'loved up' with their new purchase, I wonder if I did the right thing. Haven't even ridden her yet as she didn't come with any tack so trying to sort a saddle, but my lack of enthusiasm has meant I haven't even tried one on her yet.....
 
I was once offered twice what I paid for my mare... I turned it down without a second thought. However when I first got her, I really thought that I'd made a mistake and I was so down about it. It took around six months for us to click, partly because she is very wary of strangers and partly because my expectations were too high. Shockingly, I'll have had her for five years this summer! :eek:
