Am I a weirdo?

I love my dogs. Like I love the bones of them.

I have absolutely no interest in fussing other peoples dogs however. If I go to a friends house and their dog is all over me I find it a bit annoying. I can look at a dog and think 'that's a nice looking dog' but I don't think about wanting to take it home.

I just only seem to like my dogs that I have established a bond with.

In fact, my mum has a dog who constantly barks who I genuinely cannot stand.

I feel EXACTLY the same about other people's children. I like (love) mine, plus a few close friends/relatives' kids who I've known since babies, but couldn't give two hoots about other children. Seriously, I think there's something wrong with me. The thought of wiping other kids' snotty noses or changing nappies makes me want to be sick.

I do, however, like other folks' dogs.

Yes, you are a weirdo.

Sorry, it just had to be said 😂

I do like a lot of dogs other than just my own, but not badly behaved ones 😊

I’m similar, I love my dog with everything I have, and was the same with my old dog, but I have no real interest in other people’s. I don’t actively dislike them and I’m certainly not unkind to or about any of them, and I do love looking at collies, but I have no desire to interact with most others. Just like I have no desire to ride any horse but my own. And I definitely have no desire to interact with any child on the planet.

I think I’d be described as dog neutral rather than disliking them (unlike children, who I mostly dislike due to me being an intolerant boring sod).

I might have agreed with this until the other night when I went to this crazy lady's house who rescues just about anything that crawls, flies or walks and met her Italian Greyhound. Never have I wanted to shove somebody else's animal in my handbag so much ( shame). He was the most beautiful, affectionate little soul I have ever met .... I now want one
Normally I am ''urgh get that smelly breathed thing away from me and please god stop it fekkin barking, jumping up and humping my leg'.

It's not unusual to only be interested in your own animals or children. I like everyone's pets, but then I form quite a strong affection for most animals, including the occasional injured fox or bird. I currently have individual wild birds that appear at certain times for a private buffet. Woody, the Wood Pigeon arrives at 7pm each day.
Most dogs are gorgeous, but I have a soft spot for hairy, scruffy dogs , especially ones that that never get clipped and styled at a groomers.

I'm with you, I really tend not to like other people's dogs. I can admire them, commiserate about them and listen to you talking about them but I rarely actually want anything to do with them.

I’m not keen on other people’s dogs either. I wouldn’t want any harm to come to any of them but I don’t really want anything to do with them. I especially hate other people’s badly behaved dogs when the owners don’t do anything about the behaviour.

They are adorable but can be little gits and an absolute nightmare to house train. The personality is a whippety thing though. Mine are both like that. Sunny natured, adore people and just want to love on you. I'm sitting on the bed now with one at my side and one at my feet. If I get up they will almost certainly come with me. Yet bizarrely both are happy to stay home alone, but if we are in they split their time between us. If anyone is ever a bit sad or injured they are both there immediately as well. I thought my oldest was really special at first, then I realised they are all the same!

He was so adorable and funny LW. Caroline rescued him when this stupid couple chucked him in the dogs home at 4 months coz he peed on the floor. WTF , they had clearly smacked him too and she's worked so hard with him, he kept doing this thing like a cat pouncing where he'd go down on the front legs and wiggle his bum in the air then pounce and jump around like tigger. Soooooo cute ! and wow, so very pretty like a splendid Oriental cat which of course are my favourite breed !
I came back and looked them up but the teeth problems slightly put me off ??
Still want one tho:) x

Me too, but I include other people’s children in this.

ETA I’m bemused when people say that they drag take their dogs to big horsey shows because the dogs love to be made a fuss of by random folk. It wouldn’t ever occur to me to go over to a strange dog (or child) to fruffle its ears.

I’m similar, there are a handful of other dogs I like (generally the non-fat and well behaved ones) but I’m not an ‘I love any dog’ kind of person.
Same applies to children.
Sometimes applies to horses.
Weirdly, doesn’t often apply to cats, I seem much more tolerant of all cats

I don't think it is weird at all. Many of my friends are professionals in the training field and they don't fawn over other peoples' dogs. Most of us don't need to pet and coo at every dog that walks by.

I was going to say something similar on another thread but was worried I'd get jumped on :p

Other people's dogs are none of my business, I feel no need to go up to them and start putting hands on them. If they initiate contact is fine, as long as it isn't rude.
I get told that I must hate puppies. Nope, I just ignore them when they break off and run over to me. Why on earth would I reward someone else's dog for leaving them and running off....

Don’t you tell me you don’t like George now 😛😄

I like other people's dogs, and other people's children, and other people's horses. I just love watching people with their dogs and horses (have never felt the need to pet them though), and children are funny little critters, especially when you can give them back at the end of the day.

Other people's cats annoy me though, skulking around and randomly jumping on you or scowling at you.

My cat thinks he's a dog, so you'd probably like him.

Never heard or seen the word ‘fruffle’ it’s fab, I will be using it at every appropriate opportunity.

I like my own dogs and dogs I know well but I do not like strange dogs, dogs that bark a lot and dogs with their heads out of car windows. I don't like kids that cry either and sulky teenagers even my own family ones. I cannot see why kids think crying is a means to get their own way it does not work with me the more they cry the less likely they are to get anything. I will reward them once they stop crying so I kind of think training them like dogs might not be such a bad idea. I am not bothered if they cry if hurt as that is a legitimate reason

I would show you the door if my dogs didn’t get the required fuss they deserve.😀

I dont know about teeth problems, mine have never had any, but they are bigger and raw fed so are constantly having their teeth cleaned by what they eat. Mine do the pounce. Floydys prefered greeting is to run up to you, do that then almost pound you with both paws. He knows hes not allowed to, but if I let him would do it every time. We have a lot of spin a dog here as well, which then usually goes into the crouch, wiggle, pounce maneuver. Hours of bitey face as well, but you do need 2 for that. They definitely are very cat like dogs.

I only like my dogs and my horse. Although there's a bloody gorgeous 17hh warmblood on sales livery at the yard. I don't think he'll fit in my handbag, tho. 😢

I'm a bit selective with other people's dogs. Those than randomly charge at me on walks, I can't be doing with at all, even if they are quite cute, like the 'doodle' thing on Sunday.

I tend to fall for the underdog ('scuse the pun) and get a soft spot for the ugly creatures. I love the 'jugs'!! I know they're a trendy crossbreed but they have a face only a mother would love and the few that have worked their way through rescue have a fabulous temperament.

I do however expect everyone to LOVE my dogs :)

They definitely are very cat like dogs.

Sash was a saluki x something, a bit of an allsort, but not very big so there could well have been some whippet in there. She was definitely more cat than dog, slightly aloof and on her own terms, ignored you when it suited but totally affectionate when so inclined. :-)

i like all dogs its the people i have a problem with mostly......but i dont pet other peoples dogs but everyone pets mine!!!!! and i have had a devil of a job to stop random people giving them treats,,i would never give someone else's dog a treat i cant see the point, i only use treats to get my little wretch of a terrier to recall and wouldnt otherwise use them...
