This is really hard to describe but I will try to explain and would appreciate everyone views

I had ponies until I was 18, I did a lot of M&M showing, working hunter and hunter trials/XC and broke my own Welsh section D as well as schooling and producing the ponies

Obviously when I left home there was no money for a pony

I am now in my thirties and have no desire to ride again but for some inexplicable reason really WANT a pony, I have two fields and some stables and currently have a small flock of sheep on the land

I have the time, knowledge, seasonal hardiness (!) and money to look after a pony now so thats not a problem but I dont actually NEED one!

I have seen some Welsh A's advertised locally, they would appear to be youngsters and I am tempted to purchase one just as a pet (obviously taking on its education and ensure it is broken in later on down the line and schooled/ridden as required)

Am I a bit barmy? would the sheep be good enough as company? although there is a lone horse the other side of the fence so its not that isolated at the field

Also horse passports were not around in 'my day' so would I reasonably expect a weaned youngster to come with one?

Its hard to describe but I really miss having a pony around

Am I just being childish?

Most people on here probably don't need a horse/pony

Personally, if I had the land and stables, I'd buy 2 so they had company

Who needs a pony they cost a fortune in feed, farrior and vet bills! Need looking after 365 days a year! They are a general pain in the bum. But we love them so go on do it

i love welshies there so great. Every horse must have a passport and if they where born after june this year they must be microchiped as well. Good luck.

Make yourself a hot choccy, pull up a seat, open the AdMag (or equivalent) and prepare to say goodbye to decent nails/flawless complexion/any semblance of a social life/a neat and tidy home. Prepare to become extremely good friends with the local farrier/vet/dentist/saddler/chiro. Prepare witty one liners of "How do you make a small fortune? Start with a large fortune then buy a horse...".

Prepare to say goodbye to late lie-ins, and to have the weather forecast on speed-dial/be asked the name of the new perfume you're wearing (Eu de Equus). You will be considered a fashionista, so long as the season demands brown, as in mud brown, highlighted by accents of blonds, as in hay and straw blonde.

On the plus side - and there really must be one or we are all most definately certifiable - you will feel love and freedom and happiness and contentment and joy and amazement beyond compare

Go for it, life's too short. It's in your blood and it will never go away, I had a break from horses for 18 or so years (due to ex OH, booo!!) and my heart ached for all of those years for another one

I've now got a retired WB nutty chestnut a steady eddy i ride and a 22yr old 11.2 British Spotted pony with one eye that we rescued. Even if (heaven forbid, i can't even begin to think about it) he.........., we would get another, he is so special and very different to the 'big ones', I love having a pony.

Maybe you could rescue one, or preferably two!!

Mrs M, I love your post, how true

We have a 5 month old foal, we applied for her passport, within a month of her birth, and just recieved it this week.
So they do take time to get through, but anything weaned should have a passport.

If you have the space, money and time for a pony or 2 : ), why not have one? you only live once
