I've seen it before in cats, when an ovary or something has been left in & the cat has come into season. Anybody know of it happening in a dog? Doris has been a tart for the past few days (humping our other dog, our rabbit, our feet and even my 9 month old brother!! :O ) But tonight she seems ill. Shaking, very quiet & very tense. The spay was about a year ago, so by no means recent. She's 2 years old. Phoning the vets tomorrow. Any ideas in the mean time?

Urine infection? has she any other symptoms, you say ill? in what way is she ill? is she drinking alot? licking her bits? urinating alot? panting? what?

Discharge can lead to humping, it's lets off the same hormonal odur in some dogs.

A word with your vet would be a good idea.

Come to think of it, she was at the vets a couple of weeks ago with a water infection & was put on noraclave. It's possibly that again, but the humping threw me & i didn't link the 2. She's walking very hunched up & stiff. Raised HR. She was weeing a lot, hence the initial vet visit, but she's not now. Her appetite is down a bit, but she's just eaten some turkey. :) Other than that, she's just quiet & shakey. Tbh though, she is a known wimp - not at all a brave dog! :)

It could be a flair up/start of another urine infection, it is certainly the first thing that sprung to my mind. Try and get her to drink atleast, splash some milk in her water bowl to encourage it.
Another vet visit!

Sounds suspiciously like a urinary infection. Was she walking hunched a few weeks ago? Perhaps the vet could take a culture to determine the most appropriate antibiotic.

Just to let you know that the vet was a bit stumped! She seems to think that Doris may have hurt her back. Im not convinced, but she's jabbed her with anti inflams, pain killer & a long acting antibiotic, and also given us metacam to give her at home. The urine sample was normal, so we're just going to see how she goes over the weekend. Poor pup is so miserable :-(

I've had dogs with bulging/damaged discs act like this, they tend to walk like crabs and act very down/depressed, she could even have aggravated it with the humping/tarting about. I hope she's more comfortable now the meds are taking effect and you get a definitive answer soon x
