Had George's teeth checked today, I've had him 2 wks now anf thought it best to do this, I was recommended to use a vet who is known to be good and thorough with horses teeth (David Platt). Well my boy boys teeth were in a bad way, he had hooks that were causing him mouth ulcers and his teeth were so sharp that they had cut his tongue

It took David over an hr to sort him out and he had to be sedated because it was too much to ask him to put up with that (but he was very good and calm) I can't believe he's been so good natured when he must have been in pain

and to think I was riding and lunging him and making it worse

Lots of love and attention for him tonight when I get away from work.

been there done that! - it makes you feel sick doesnt it? - dont beat yourself up though - at least youve got it done now in a very short space of time - which is more than his last owners obviously did! x

dont feel bad - you have sorted him out now and he will feel so much better. Two weeks isnt really very long, considering the time he now has ahead of him with a nice comfy mouth!

Don't beat yourself up over it, honestly, I've been in exactly the same situation myself, as have several others!
Anyone who knows me knows that our little gang have the absolute best of everything & care but on this occasion, I presumed that as the pony was eating normally etc., she was fine!
Well, her teeth weren't fine, they were bl**dy diabolical, a thousand times worse than George's I'm sure!
Yes, I felt awful at the time but I got them sorted & resolved to check without fail for myself in the future!
Chin up, it's not the end of the world & your horse still loves you!
You're getting them sorted now & that's what matters! xx

Hun, I echo the above. If you dont know, you dont know! Ask Dubble about it, she has been through the worst worry with Snowy. We have all been there. Unless you fall down and bloody your knees, you will not learn to pick yourself up. Think on now lass, you are a good mummy

You shouldn't feel bad, you have taken the trouble to get them checked quickly and sorted out! He will feel so much more comfortable now.
Had same experience with my horse, his teeth were in a bad way when I got him, had mouth ulcers etc, but you would never have known from riding him / his eating that there was anything wrong. Was so glad that I got them checked soon after getting him.
Horses can be so forgiving even when we are (albeit unintentionally) causing them pain.

Thank you all, I have just been up to see him and he seemed fine

, he keeps chomping his teeth and licking his lips because it all feels different. He also keeps flapping his bottom lip and the people at the yard are calling him 'Mr Ed the talking horse' as that's what he looks like

!! Just so glad he is ok, he practically dragged me down to the grass for a good munch!

What a lucky boy to have come to such a caring owner. At the end of the day it wasn't you that allowed his mouth to get into such a bad state. You have only had him for 2 weeks and have got him sorted, which is great. If he was genuine and lovely before, just think how fabulous he is going to be now he isn't in discomfort any more. Well done you!
